STEADY START TO THE YEAR 🏝️As anticipation builds among everyone, the modules are gradually making their way closer to the Island. We're discovering that securing heavy-duty equipment like side loaders, cranes, barges, and tug boats in Espiritu Santo's non-urban environment presents significant challenges in terms of both availability and the working condition of the equipment. 🏝️Previously, we were awaiting repairs on essential equipment, which have now been completed. Currently, Denys Troyak, our development pioneer, is off the island. To mark a year since we began on-site and the three-year milestone of RED’s involvement, we're excited to highlight the ground-breaking sustainable development of Zeal Hotel Exeter: Operational Carbon - Achieved zero, making it the UK's first net zero hotel for operational carbon without offsets. Embodied Carbon - Reduced by 50% compared to a typical recent hotel build, with less than 750 kg CO₂e/m², without using a CLT structure. Exceeding Targets - Surpassed LETI and RIBA 2030 embodied carbon targets for commercial buildings. Benchmarking Sustainability - Set a new standard for sustainable hotel construction. Cost Efficiency - Achieved at no additional cost, comparable to a local 4-star hotel, with an 80% reduction in operational energy costs. Energy Use Intensity (EUI) - Below 60 kWh/m²/yr, far outperforming the CRREM 2030 target of 90 kWh/m²/yr. Energy Consumption - Net sub-zero, generating more energy annually than consumed. 🇵🇹Thank you LPP / Lisboa Para Pessoas for writing this article on my architectural proposal "Hydroscape Lisbon". 💧 "Lisbon is characterized by the Tagus, but in the western area, in particular, the relationship with the river is affected by the trainline and port infrastructure, that create a barrier between the city and the water. Ilia Voulgari, a young architect, suggests changing that with her Hydroscape Lisbon project . The idea involves reconstructing Lisbon's urban landscape with a 14 kilometers long park along the riverfront, enhancing proximity to the water and bringing this water beauty to the city. Ilia offers an extensive urban park with green spaces, public swimming pools and baths With Hydroscape Lisbon , the young architect sought to rethink the city's relationship with water , both on a territorial and human scale. The proposal includes a water treatment center that takes advantage of the water, coming from the valleys and sewage, and which, once treated, is used to feed the swimming pool, baths or even the park's irrigation system. This treatment process involves two phases: first, through mechanical processes and, second, through constructed wetlands, which are also part of the park. Basically, Ilia believes that water infrastructures can be integrated into the fabric of the city, making new public spaces flourish – creating a hydroscape (Hydro + landscape) or "water landscape". https://lnkd.in/eNiuN97W
