COP29: A New Financial Agreement for Climate  🌍   After 2 weeks of intense negotiations in Baku, COP29 - bringing together nearly 200 countries and over 55,000 participants - concluded in late November with new progress in climate finance. 💰 Tripling financial aid for developing countries, by reaching $300 billion per year. 📈 Aiming to scale up funding to $1.3 trillion per year by 2035.   The new agreement, known as the “New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance” (NCQG), builds on the key milestones of previous COPs: 🌱  COP27: Creation of the Loss and Damage fund to provide financial assistance to vulnerable nations offset the damage from natural disasters caused by climate change. 🔋 COP28: Commitment to triple renewable energy capacity and transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems.   COP29 also delivered long-awaited decisions on carbon markets, enabling countries to accelerate emissions reductions more effectively.   🔥 The Baku agreement arrives at a crucial moment, as all countries must adopt stricter Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs, by 2025 to maintain the goal of limiting warming to +1.5°C. They are a pressing financial risk for institutions and businesses… 💣   To address this, a new project team has been created 👉 Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD).   The Taskforce has the support of more than 100 organisations from across business, finance, labour, civil society and international organisations, and will be chaired by global leaders: Peter Bakker, Sharan Burrow, Arunma Oteh, and Gabriela Ramos.   Launched in September 2024, it aims to create a global framework for businesses to enhance their disclosure on the social impacts, dependencies and risks they face, including inequality.   🎯 The goal is to ensure that companies provide clear and detailed information on social risks and opportunities in their public reports.   Curious about the new TISFD?
