Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-mm-mm
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
[Verse 1]
You know I’m your type, right? (Right)
Mark your calendar, tonight’s gonna be your life’s highlight (Light)
Boy, we gon' roll up, we gon' roll out, look
This is the land of fast, bet you ain’t used to that, nah
First to one-up your last, she can stay in your past
Honey, I don’t stop for no one but I’d pause for you, you, you, you
[Pre-Chorus]
So let’s go downtown and get real high
It’d be psycho to psychoanalyze
Leave all of your inhibitions behind
Tonight let’s test all the borderlines like
[Chorus]
How far out does the indigo go?
Boy, let’s find out, take the longer way home
Have my body all superimposed
Right on top of yours, oh
As far as the indica goes
I’m hating that you’re still in your clothes
Babe, touch me slow all adagio
Like oh-oh-oh-oh, yeah
Know you like a little attitude (Attitude, attitude)
A little spunk, a little gumption
Well baby, have a lot of gratitude
'Cause I can be sweet, or poised, or a little too feisty to function, yeah
So shut up and just hop in, we gon' ride in style
If thrill was a sport, I’d be the poster child
I listen to none, but I’m all ears for you, you, you, yeah
[Pre-Chorus]
So let’s drive by the city skyline
I’m so over this overthinkin' mind
Leave all of your inhibitions behind
Tonight let’s test all the borderlines like
[Chorus]
How far out does the indigo go?
Boy, let’s find out, take the longer way home
Have my body all superimposed
Right on top of yours, oh
As far as the indica goes
I’m hating that you’re still in your clothes
Babe, touch me slow all adagio
Like oh-oh-oh-oh, yeah
[Outro]
Baby go slow, slow, slow, slow (Slow)
Under the indigo, go (Indigo)
Steady and slow, slow, slow, slow (Yeah)
Under the indigo, indigo

In all honesty, the inspiration for the song was just like, I really wanted to write a boss ass bitch anthem and I felt like if I put it in a song, maybe it’ll manifest internally, you know? Externalize is my motto. So, yeah I was just like, “Let’s make a boss ass bitch anthem.” It wasn’t that deep, I just really was at a session and we just kinda was like, “Let’s make a bop ass R&B song right now.” And that’s kind of the vibe, truly. You know, I’m only 20, so clearly I know all the secrets of the universe, but honestly what I’ve learned so far is just that it’s hard being a girl sometimes, especially in the industry, and just being a working female is tough like there’s a lot of double standards going on. And this year specifically, I’ve just sort of really kind of embraced my femininity and it’s still like a work in progress, like I’m not there yet fully, but definitely I just kind of wanted to have a song that commemorated just my growth, really, this year. And I felt like I really needed a straight up like boss ass bitch anthem because that’s how I was feeling internally. It was just all about me embracing my life and just who I am as a woman, as a working female, and yeah. Honestly, this is very new territory for me, so I was just like, “Yeah let’s do that.” Maybe if I manifest that out loud, because sometimes there are days where I’m just like, “I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing.” You know? So I just needed a song as like a constant reminder that, “Bitch, you are that bitch.”
So indigo, the word itself, is totally open to interpretation. I read some crazy theories online and I was just like, “That’s not what I was writing about, but sure okay. Whatever floats your boat.” Okay, first of all, it literally means a color. It’s like rich, dark blue color. And so whenever I look at the night sky, that color is indigo to me. And so Indigo to me, while I was writing it, obviously it literally meant the night sky, but it metaphorically and symbolically meant kind of just like one’s energy. It’s really funny because when I worked with these producers, I worked with Rogét and these two other guys, Wes and Taylor, and we were just at Rogét’s crib and they were kind of laying the beat down. And I was sort of coming up with melodies as they were laying the beat down and just like with their cords and what not, and the first thing I wrote was that line. The first line of the chorus was the very first thing that came out of my mouth, and it was truly just like a freestyle. I felt like those words just syllabically made sense, I was just like (singing) and that was just kind of the first line, and then I riffed off of that. So truly, it was a total accident for some reason, just those words kind of came out of my mouth, really. And I sort of just pictured sort of like a nighttime drive with somebody and it just kind of made sense for it to be called “Indigo.”
