Do you ever feel like a misfit?
Everything inside you is dark and twisted
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I-I-I-I-I)
[Verse 1]
Can you hear the whispers all across the room?
You feel their eyes all over you like cheap perfume
You're beautiful, but misunderstood
So why you tryna be just like the neighborhood?
[Pre-Chorus]
I can see ya, I know what you're feelin'
So let me tell you 'bout my little secret
I'm a little crazy underneath this
Underneath this
[Chorus]
Do you ever feel like a misfit?
Everything inside you is dark and twisted
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I)
Do you ever feel like an outcast?
You don't have to fit into the format
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I-I-I-I-I)
Oh, so dress up fancy like Sid and Nancy (Yeah)
Walkin' Killer Queen, gotta keep 'em guessin'
So, baby, come pass me a lighter
We're gonna leave 'em on fire (Ah)
We're the sinners and the blessings (Oh yeah)
[Pre-Chorus]
I can see ya, I know what you're feelin'
So let me tell you 'bout my little secret
I'm a little crazy underneath this
Underneath this, oh
[Chorus]
Do you ever feel like a misfit?
Everything inside you is dark and twisted
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I)
Do you ever feel like an outcast?
You don't have to fit into the format
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I-I-I-I-I)
[Bridge]
(Ah-ah-ah)
You're king and you're queen
You're strong, then you're weak
You're bound, but so free
(Ah-ah-ah)
So come and join me
And call me Harley
And we'll make 'em scream
Do you ever feel like a misfit?
Everything inside you is dark and twisted
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I)
Do you ever feel like an outcast?
You don't have to fit into the format
Oh, but it's okay to be different
'Cause, baby, so am I (So am I, so am I, so am I-I-I-I-I)
About
“So Am I” is the follow-up single by Ava Max after her 2018 Platinum breakout hit, “Sweet but Psycho”.
The electro-pop song details the tale of empowerment on how Ava relates to being different and how those differences makes everyone unique.
In an interview, Ava Max said that it’s
About what makes people unique and different from each other. It’s about loving yourself, being different, being an outcast and not fitting in the format that society wants to put us in — just celebrating what really makes you different. Whenever I’m feeling down, I remind myself that my flaws make me perfect, because in reality there is no perfect."

The song was prompted for promotion few weeks before its release by encouraging Ava Max’s fans to join her #SoAmI movement on social media. The movement was simply to encourage fans about what differentiates them from the rest and picturing the imprinted phrase “SoAmI” on their hand.
This was mostly shared through Instagram’s stories feature where they were featured on the official IG page for 24 hours.
This later revealed that this was the theme for the music video as the imprinted phrase on people’s hands appear.
The track is about just embracing where you come from and loving yourself and all of your flaws, because your flaws make you perfect at the end of the day. And it took me a long time to really reflect on that and see that, because growing up obviously in school, it’s hard."
