Charlene Lyrics
[Verse 1]
You've got yourself in a fine mess there, Charlene
You're either absolutely mad or you are joking, Charlene
[Chorus]
Charlene, I'm crying
So close to you, darling
We're naked and laughing
You shine on my batteries, Charlene
[Post-Chorus]
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene, Charlene
[Verse 2]
I have always adored your witty mouth, Charlene
Now, would you please be very, very rude to them, Charlene?
[Chorus]
Charlene, I'm crying (Charlene)
So close to you, darling (Charlene)
We're naked and laughing (Charlene)
You shine on my batteries, Charlene
[Post-Chorus]
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene
You've got yourself in a fine mess there, Charlene
You're either absolutely mad or you are joking, Charlene
[Chorus]
Charlene, I'm crying
So close to you, darling
We're naked and laughing
You shine on my batteries, Charlene
[Post-Chorus]
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene, Charlene
[Verse 2]
I have always adored your witty mouth, Charlene
Now, would you please be very, very rude to them, Charlene?
[Chorus]
Charlene, I'm crying (Charlene)
So close to you, darling (Charlene)
We're naked and laughing (Charlene)
You shine on my batteries, Charlene
[Post-Chorus]
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene
[Verse 3]
Let me get you out of that lake, Charlene
Your dress is red and oh so slippery, Charlene
[Interlude]
I guess I have to dry you
Dress you and comb you
You're already late
I'll sort you out
[Chorus]
Charlene, I'm crying
So close to you, darling
We're naked and laughing
You shine on my batteries, Charlene
[Post-Chorus]
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene
Let me get you out of that lake, Charlene
Your dress is red and oh so slippery, Charlene
[Interlude]
I guess I have to dry you
Dress you and comb you
You're already late
I'll sort you out
[Chorus]
Charlene, I'm crying
So close to you, darling
We're naked and laughing
You shine on my batteries, Charlene
[Post-Chorus]
Charlene, Charlene
Charlene
Charlene, Charlene

About
Genius Annotation
“Charlene” (referred to as “Shiny” during The Post Tour) is a song recorded by Björk for her 1995 album Post. The song was ultimately left off, and was instead released as a B-side to the single “Isobel”, alongside the other B-side tracks “I Go Humble” and “Sweet Intuition”, as well as the album track “Hyperballad” and the Debut track “Venus As A Boy”. The fan-favourite B-side is a mid-tempo song with sexually suggestive and ambiguous lyrics inspired by her friend Kadamba Simmons, a British actress and model.
