John the Revelator Lyrics

Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals

Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals

God walked down in the cool of the day
Called Adam by his name
But he refused to answer
Because he was naked and ashamed

Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Who's that writin'? John the Revelator
Wrote the book of the seven seals

Who's that writin'? John the Revelator. Who?
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator. Who?)
Tell me who's that writin'? (John the Revelator)
John the Revelator
Tell me who's that writin'? (John the Revelator). Who?
Tell me who's that writin'? (John the Revelator). Who?
Tell me who's that writin'? John the Revelator

About

Genius Annotation

This is a cover of Son House’s John The Revelator, which was inspired by the classic gospel song John The Revelator as first recorded by Blind Willie Johnson in 1930. John The Revelator refers to John of Patmos, who wrote the Book of Revelations, the final book of the Christian Bible. The Book of Revelations is a prophecy given to John by God describing the end of days, when Christ would return again to Earth and create a holy kingdom. Son House’s version of John the Revelator describes three theologically significant events; the Fall of Man, the Passion of Christ, and the Ressurection. John The Revelator is a naturally ominous song, with even Blind Willie Johnson’s original recording giving it a slightly sinister sound and the call and repeat aspect of it lending a sense of urgency. Curtis Stigers’s recording emphasizes its ominous nature by using slow drum beats and repetitive guitar strings.
