Save Tonight Lyrics
Go on and close
The curtains
'Cause all we need
Is candlelight
You and me
And a bottle of wine
Gonna hold you tonight
Uh, yeah
[Pre-Chorus]
Well, we know
I'm going away
And how I wish
I wish it weren't so
So, take this wine
And drink with me
Let's delay our misery
[Chorus]
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
There's a log
On the fire
And it burns
Like me for you
Tomorrow comes
With one desire
To take me away
Oh, it's true
[Pre-Chorus]
It ain't easy
To say goodbye
Darling, please
Don't start to cry
'Cause, girl, you know I've got to go
Oh
And, Lord, I wish it wasn't so
[Chorus]
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Tomorrow comes
To take me away
I wish that I, that I could stay
Girl, you know I've got to go
Oh
Lord, I wish it wasn't so
[Chorus]
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
[Chorus]
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Save tonight
And fight the break of dawn
Come tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Tomorrow I'll be gone
Tomorrow I'll be gone
[Outro]
Save tonight
Save tonight
Save tonight
Save tonight
Oh, that's right?
Save tonight
Save tonight
Save tonight
Save tonight
Yeah, that's right?
About
“Save Tonight” is about spending as much time with one’s partner as possible, or in a wider context – not wanting tomorrow to come or something to end. In an interview with CNN Eagle-Eye talks about the irony of the song’s success:
The irony is that the more success the song has brought, the more my life has become the song – constantly leaving my girlfriend behind
But I think what’s cool about the song is that it is a story anyone can relate to. And also the concept of not wanting tomorrow to come, and that can be applied to being at a great party or a concert. It’s like, ‘Oh man, does this have to end?’
Even 20 years later when GQ caught up with Eagle-Eye, he said
Once the song took off, my life became that: constantly having that last night before I leave.
Further speaking to the wider context as time has passed.
In the music video Eagle-Eye takes on many forms playing different characters throughout the video, including a man preparing for a date, a butcher, a truck driver and a man busking on the street.
The video is shot as a ‘one-shot’, meaning that each scene links seamlessly to the next (either through long takes or editing, or a combination of the two), similar to the way Birdman or Rope were shot.
