jealousy Lyrics
I just wanna go outside and feel the sun is shinin' on my better side
I’ve not always had my way, but I forgive my sins
Yeah, baby, that's okay
Jealousy you put on me
You're in your feelings way too deep
Jealousy you put on me
That’s why your mind's out, mind's out, why?
Jealousy you put on me
You're in your feelings way too deep
Jealousy you put on me
That's why your mind's out, mind's out, why?
[Verse 1: Rema & FKA twigs]
Girly, take it easy, take it slow
You follow me everywhere that I go
I gave you the keys to my soul
And you still don't believe, baby, I know (I know)
Girl, I’m sick and tired of your drama
Don’t let me take you back to your mama
Twenty missed calls 'cause I’m not home
What you gonna do, only God knows
[Chorus: FKA twigs & Rema, FKA twigs]
Jealousy you put on me
You're in your feelings way too deep
Jealousy you put on me
That's why your mind's out, mind’s out, why? (Fuck it)
Jealousy you put on me
You're in your feelings way too deep
Jealousy you put on me
That's why your mind's out, mind's out, why?
Waves of motion moving in my life
Waves of motion moving in my—
I want it all for my life
All the things I like, yeah
I'm living true
Knowing that I'm better off without your blue
[Chorus: FKA twigs & Rema, FKA twigs & Rema]
I just wanna go outside and feel the sun is shinin' on my better side
I've not always had my way, but I forgive my sins
Yeah, baby, that's okay
Jealousy you put on me
You're in your feelings way too deep
(Why you wanna do me like that?)
Jealousy you put on me
That's why your mind's out, mind's out, why?
Jealousy you put on me
You're in your feelings way too deep
(Why you wanna do me like that?)
Jealousy you put on me
That's why your mind's out, mind's out, why?
[Outro: Rema & FKA twigs]
Put on me, that's why your mind's out
Put on me, that's why your mind's out
Why? Eyes, eyes
Jealousy you put on me (Why?)
Put on me, that's why your mind's out
Put on me, that's why your mind's out
Why? Eye, eyes
About
Marking the first collaboration between FKA twigs and Nigerian artist Rema, “jealousy” presents influences of both Afrobeats and, most notably, the late 90’s to early 2000s era of dance-hall, which is also celebrated through the clothing and the imagery (including a sound system and a Jamaican flag) in the track’s official music video.
The song was released as the cover song of Zane Lowe’s New Music Daily Apple Music radio show on January 13th, the day before CAPRISONGS dropped; twigs stated that “we couldn’t wait” on her Instagram story:
In her conversation with Zane, twigs explained that “jealousy” originally stemmed from a demo that she and Fred again worked on years ago. During the initial lockdown caused by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, twigs reached out to Spanish producer El Guincho to work further on the track: after they finished, they chose to involve Rema, to who they were eventually connected through a mutual friend.

I started that song with Fred Gibson [Fred again…] a couple years ago, and it was just a tiny snippet and I was so excited about it, […] because […] that melody was really exciting to me and I hadn’t done anything like that.
I sat on it for a long time, and then, when I was in lockdown, I ended up connecting with Pablo [El Guincho] a lot over FaceTime, and it was the first lockdown [during the spring of 2020], when it was really hardcore and I was isolating alone and feeling […] crazy, and so to be able to connect with El Guincho over FaceTime, it saved me, every single day. Every single day, around lunchtime, we would just log on and talk about music, or he would share new music, or I would send him demos, or sing little melody ideas […]. I ended up, one day, just doing this massive dump on him of all of my weird little unfinished clips, and “jealousy” was something he really picked up on, and he said, […] “T, this hook is amazing,” and I was like, “Really?” And he was like, “Yeah, that’s the most amazing melody.” And so we got in, we finished it and then we were like, “It could really have someone else in the second verse,” and Guincho was like, “Rema.” So we started listening to lots of Rema’s music.
It was funny, actually, because Rema was quite difficult to get in touch with… […] I was talking to [a friend of mine], Irene, one day, and she’s Nigerian, and I was just like, “This is super random, […] I don’t want to sound like weird, ‘cause I know you’re Nigerian, but you don’t you know Rema, do you?’ and she was like, "Yeah, I do know him.” […] So I was like, ‘Great. You couldn’t tell him to put some extra harmonies on the track, could you?“ And so, we ended up connecting and finishing the track through her.
To me, it’s just, that’s the soul of the record; I’ve really pushed myself to connect more and to be even more collaborative, and to grow and step outside of myself.
