The song is a heartfelt one crying for peace in Africa, which due to many conflicts in the late 20th century and 21st century is hard to come by.
Lo’s native Senegal is quite peaceful, by both African and world standards. The word for peace in the title “Jaam” (also spelled Jamm) frequently occurs in everyday speech, and reflects a cultural value of harmony and coexistence. That being said, there is conflict in the Cassamance region.
The cry for peace in Rwanda and Burundi, which are on the other side of the continent, is in the shadow of the Rwandan and Burundi genocides, two related horrors that occured
