His father found a man on Craigslist who was selling his old drum set. Jeris went to the house and bought the drum set. Flash forward to Christmas Eve; John (the man he bought the drums from) appeared at the door step with the rest of his drum things. Jeris never saw him again. He wrote the song almost as a type of honor and memory.
