Light of Day Lyrics
One, two
One, two, three, four
[Verse 1]
Well, I've been out of the woods for six days and nights now
And I'm a little hot wired but I'm feeling alright now
I got some money in my pocket and I won't need a ride, yeah
I got a big Jag car and a baby by my side, yeah
[Chorus]
Well, I'm a little hot-wired, but I'm feeling okay
And I got a little lost down along the way
Well, I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
[Verse 2]
Driving 500 miles, got 500 to go, yeah
I've got a rock 'n' roll music on my radio
I've got a brother on the rig just off the Gulf Coast
He says the girls down there are really the most, yeah
[Chorus]
Well, I'm a little tired out but I'm feeling okay
And I got a little lost along the way
But I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
[Verse 3]
Well, I got thrown out of work on the Kokomo
Well, don't ask me what I'm doing, 'cause I don't know, yeah
Only hear you wasn't joking when you wrote me that letter
Things can't get worse, so they gotta get better
[Chorus]
Well, I'm a little hot-wired but I'm feeling okay
And I got a little lost along the way
But I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
[Outro]
I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
I'm just around the corner 'til the light of day, yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Woo
About
The story goes that songwriter Bruce Springsteen gave film director Paul Schrader this song to make up for his having taken the originally planned title for Schrader’s film, Born In The U.S.A., for his own 1984 album. The song was written by Springsteen for that album and a version was recorded in 1983. It has not as of yet been released. Schrader of course used this song’s title as the new title for the film.
The soundtrack album lists the song as being by the fictional band “The Barbusters” featuring Joan Jett as Patti Rasnick and Michael J. Fox as her brother Joe Rasnick. The single credits it as being by “The Barbusters (Joan Jett And The Blackhearts)”.
In 2011, American Songwriter magazine listed this song as their #3 favorite movie song.
