Genius Annotation

The follow-up to Lesley’s summertime hit, “Maybe I Know”, “Hey Now” was released the following fall.

Mercury Records expected the R&B tinged disk to become a cross-over hit for Lesley, however it failed to meet the Mercury Execs' expectations—stalling at number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Trade ad via Record World magazine, October 17th, 1964

Due the style of “Hey Now” not being what pop audiences were accustomed to, and the temporary discontinuation of Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart during its run, “Hey Now” was unable to find footing with listeners of either genre—leaving it to flounder in sales.
