In a track by track interview about the “Sheezus” album, Lily said the following about her opening song:
I suppose it’s about lots of different things but it starts off the verses being quite specifically about me sort of re-entering the commercial music scene and my fears about re-entering. Then it kind of goes somewhere a bit weird, and name drops all of the big people in pop music.
The things I’m scared of about re-entering the scene are also the things that I find unfair about it at the same time, which is the press putting women against each other and making us feel like we are all in competition with each other which I don’t think we are. It’s a fun game the media play and I find it a bit unfair.
The second verse is about menstruation and then it goes somewhere really weird, pied piper-esque kind of biblical middle eight section and then it just has a hip hop outro for “insert rapper here” to make radio friendly.
