Prologue to History Lyrics

[Verse 3]
Remember ethnic cleansing in the Highlands
No one says a thing in the middle of England
I'm bruised fruit but still taste so nice
But if you look at me, you better look twice
I'm talking rubbish to cover up the cracks
An empty vessel who can't make contact

[Chorus]
Today a poet who can't play guitar
Tomorrow Phil Bennett's playing outside half
Next year the world's greatest politician
Yesterday the boy who once had a mission
I don't wanna be a prologue to history
A prologue to history
A prologue to history
A prologue

Genius Annotation

Originally released as a B-side to If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next in August 1998 and later included on Lipstick Traces (A Secret History of Manic Street Preachers) in 2003, Prologue to History would be later included on the 20th anniversary remastered edition of “This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours” replacing the track “Nobody Loved You”, a song written about the disappearance of lyricist/rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards to which the band apparently considered “outdated” in terms of their feelings on RIchey at that time.
