Good Vibrations Lyrics
Yeah
Can you feel it, baby?
I can, too
Come on, swing it
C-come on, swing it
Come on, swing it
C-come on, swing it
One, two, three
Now we come to the payoff
[Hook: Loleatta Holloway]
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
[Verse 1: Marky Mark]
Yo, it's about that time
To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme
I'mma get mine, so get yours
I wanna see sweat comin' out your pores
On the house tip is how I'm swinging this
Strictly hip hop boy, I ain't singin' this
Bringin' this to the entire nation
Black, white, red, brown
Feel the vibration
Feel it, feel it
Feel the vibration
[Hook: Loleatta Holloway]
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
[Verse 2: Marky Mark]
Vibrations good like Sunkist
Many wanna know who done this
Marky Mark, and I'm here to move you
Rhymes will groove you
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
So feel the vibration
Come on, come on
Feel it, feel it
Feel the vibration
[Hook: Loleatta Holloway]
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
Donnie D, break it down!
Donnie D's on the back up
Drug free, so put the crack up
No need for speed
I'm anti d-r-u-g-g-i-e my
Body is healthy
And rhymes makes me wealthy
And the funky bunch helps me
To bring you a show with no intoxication
Come on, feel the vibration
Yeah
Can you feel it, baby?
I can, too
[Hook: Loleatta Holloway]
It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet sensation
Now the time has come for you to get up
The rest had you fed up, but yo, I won't let up
On the rhythm and rhyme that's designed to
Make your behind move to what I'm inclined to
Pure hip hop no sell out
If you ain't in it to win it
Then get the hell out
I command you to dance
I wanna see motivation
Come on now, feel the vibration
About
“Good Vibrations”, a #1 song in the US, Denmark, Sweden & Switzerland in the fall of 1991, was the result of a promise made to Mark Wahlberg by his brother Donnie, who was on tour at the time with the indescribably successful New Kids On The Block.
Donnie and Mark were the first two members originally recruited into NKOTB by producer Maurice Starr. But when Starr wanted the group to focus on ballads instead of rap, Mark (who wasn’t a singer) quit. A few years later he had dropped out of school and was involved in shoplifting and street fights (later referring to his younger self as a ‘trainwreck’).
When Donnie came home from touring, he kept his promise and wrote “Good Vibrations” with his brother Mark and friend Amir Quadeer “MC Spice” Shakir. The three produced a demo tape that radio promotion executive Marc Benesch forwarded to Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine, who loved it, signed Mark to a record deal and put the brothers into a studio to record a full album.
The track includes samples from Loleatta Holloway’s #1 Dance Track “Love Sensation”. Whereas other hits like Samantha Fox’s “I Wanna Have Some Fun” and Blackbox’s “I Don’t Know Anybody Else” had already borrowed from the track without crediting Holloway, the Wahlbergs not only included her name on the release, but also asked her to appear in the song’s music video and perform on stage with them live on The Arsenio Hall Show.
Originally Mark wanted his track “Wildside” to be his debut single but the record company insisted on “Good Vibrations” instead, which reached the top 20 in fifteen countries, was certified Gold in the US, and Billboard ranked it the #20 song of 1991. “Wildside” was the follow-up and it fared admirably, reaching the top 40 in nine countries and was also certified Gold.
