Will of the People Lyrics
The will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
[Verse 1]
Let's push thе emperors into the ocеan
(The will of the people, the will of the people)
(The will of the, will of the)
Don't need a goon to flood with devotion
(The will of the people, the will of the people)
(The will of the, will of the)
With every hour, our number increases
(The will of the people, the will of the people)
(The will of the, will of the)
We'll smash your institutions to pieces
(The will of the people, the will of the people)
(The will of the, will of the)
[Pre-Chorus]
We need a transformation
One we all can see
We need a revolution
So long as we stay free (The will of the, will of the)
Welcome to the desecration, baby
We'll build you right up, then we'll tear you down
Welcome to the celebration, baby
The judges are jailed and the future is ours
[Verse 2]
Free your sons and unlock your daughters
We'll throw the baby out with the bathwater
With every second, our anger increases
We're gonna smash your nation to pieces
(The will of the people, the will of the people)
(The will of the, will of the)
[Pre-Chorus]
We need a transmutation
One we all conceive
We need a revolution
So long as we stay free (The will of the, will of the)
[Chorus]
Welcome to the desecration, baby
We'll build you right up, then we'll tear you down
Welcome to the celebration, baby
The judges are jailed and the future is ours
The will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the sheeple
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
Will of the people, the will of the people
The will of the, will of the
[Chorus]
(The will of the, will of the)
Welcome to the desecration, baby
We'll build you right up, then we'll tear you down
(The will of the, will of the)
Welcome to the celebration, baby
The judges are jailed and the future is ours
(The will of the, will of the)
About
“Will of the People” is the glam rock third single and title track from Muse’s ninth album Will of the People.
The song was initially teased in short clips on YouTube and Instagram when the album was announced.
The music video was directed by Tom Teller who has previously worked on the music video for “The Dark Side” from Muse’s previous album Simulation Theory. The video has a cyberpunk setting and shows what appears to be the final act of a revolution. The last scene, teased in March, explains the narration behind the album’s cover art.
The song presents some similarities to “Uprising”, such as the lyrical subject, the rhythmic pattern, and a reference to Orwell’s 1984 in the video, where “Ministry Of Truth” is seen written on a wall. Moreover, the song is stylistically reminescent of songs such as “Psycho” and “Supermassive Black Hole”, featuring a similar swing rhythm and elements of glam rock.
As suggested by Matt Bellamy, the song implies that we should fear or at least be wary of “the will of the people”. It doesn’t mean that the will of the élite is better but the will of the people has its dark sides too.
The “will of the people” chants throughout the song are sung by the entire band, together with Elle Evans, Bing Bellamy, Chris’s wife Caris and his kids, Ernie, Buster, Teddi, Tabitha and Indiana.

Matt Bellamy:
Our generation has seen this huge change. Something’s going on in the West—a kind of collapse, a kind of division has been emerging. And now we’re dealing with real external threats. We just feel like we’re a part of this generation where something’s going to go down in a major way.
