I Pray For You Lyrics

[Intro: Labrinth]
I pray for my enemies
I pray for my friends
I pray for the one who won't betray me again
Pray for the killers, I pray for the saints
Please, pray for me now
‘Cause, darling, I pray for you
I pray for you, mmm
I pray for you, mmm
I pray for you
Pray for you (You)
I, you, ooh

[Verse 1: Pusha T]
Rarely do you see the Phoenix rise from the ashes
Lightnin' struck twice on four classics

Self-preservation, we separate ourselves from the plastic
The ankle of my sweat still elastic, still do gymnastics
If Hov's still forever young
Then I'ma somersault backwards through these chapters

Land in thе soft-white, cook it till it's off-white
They quеstionin' my scorecard, hold it to a torch light
I hid it in the porch light, see, I had the foresight
My 9-1-1 was pullin' up to matchin' Porsche night, ooh
The married drug dealer, even named my son Brixx
He raps what he lives, so fuck the nanny, gon' sit

It's the grown man in me
Searchin' for the plug, that's the nomad in me

Still the X factor, that's the Rohan in me
Reluctantly a role model
That drowned in too many gold bottles
Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes

The past ten years, screamin', "Uno"
Then side step back into the duo
The kings of the Pyrex
I'm my brother's keeper if you listen and you dissect
All I talk is money if you listen to my dialect

Bitch, I shot "Grindin'" in my momma's momma's projects
I'm just being honest with you, how is that for context?

You can live forever when the shit you write is timeless
We gon' live forever 'cause the shit we write is timeless

[Outro: Labrinth]
Oh
Oh, oh (Ooh)

About

Genius Annotation

Pusha’s favourite song off the album, “I Pray For You” is the fourth Clipse collaboration since the group ended in 2010, and the second in the past month. This is also the first track where No Malice has referred to himself as Malice since his conversion to Christianity in 2012.

Pusha T raps about what he has accomplished with his brother in their lives and careers, while Malice turns faith talk into some threats living up to his name, all over Labrinth’s gospel-like vocals and organ-heavy production reminiscent of church music.

The song was first revealed in Pusha T’s April 11, 2022 interview with Charlamagne tha God and it was later used for the album’s date announcement in a short trailer.

What did Pusha T say about "I Pray For You"?
Genius Answer

First of all, be clear Malice told me that he wanted his name to read Malice and not No Malice on the tracklisting, this was his request and I think that just in creating this song, people will see how great he just is as a artist, as a lyricist and you understand, he can turn this on and off whenever he wants, this is is really his world.

People have been hearing the record and immediately say, ‘Aw, man, I always told you, your brother was better than you.’ […] I don’t care, it’s fine, he can rap better than me, it’s okay, guys. But yeah, I think it’s a dope moment for the Clipse and gives that Clipse level of nostalgia that you might have been missing.
