“Any Colour you Like” (Originally an instrumental tack on 1973’s Dark Side of the Moon) is one of the most abstract pieces in both the original and this redux piece. In the redux, Waters has added spoken word above a paired back version of the original melody.
The meaning of the song is highly contested. However, Waters words shed some light onto the meaning. In an interview waters says “The whole thing about a flag and the color of flags. Blue and yellow, obviously a reference to Ukraine or red could be Russia might be or black who knows Pirates. Rainbow obviously it’s in people’s minds now because it’s quite close to the front of all our experience of life now that we’re beginning to think about sexuality in in healthier ways than we were in uh in the Dark Ages some of us still are you know in in dark societies and there are some societies which are darker than others where we make judgments about people based upon how they feel about their own sexuality and we shouldn’t we should accept that we should live under a rainbow flag. I’m very against countries flag nationality is is um a malign influence on most of our lives.”
