Please Mister Postman Lyrics
(Wait!)
Oh, yes, wait a minute, Mister Postman
(Wait!)
Wait, Mister Postman
[Chorus: Paul McCartney & George Harrison & John Lennon]
(Mister Postman, look and see)
Oh, yeah!
(Is there a letter in your bag for me?)
Please, please, Mister Postman
(I've been waiting a long, long time)
Oh, yeah!
(Since I heard from that girl of mine)
[Verse 1: John Lennon]
There must be some word someday
From my girlfriend so far away
Please, Mister Postman, look and see
If there's a letter, a letter for me
I've been standin' here waitin', Mister Postman
So patiently
For just a card or just a letter
Saying she's returnin' home to me
[Chorus: John Lennon & Paul McCartney & George Harrison]
Please, Mister Postman!
(Mister Postman, look and see)
Oh, yeah!
(Is there a letter in your bag for me?)
Please, please, Mister Postman
(I've been waiting a long, long time)
Oh, yeah!
(Since I heard from that girl of mine)
So many days, you passed me by
See the tear standin' in my eye
You didn't stop to make me feel better
By leavin' me a card or a letter
[Chorus: John Lennon, Paul McCartney & George Harrison & All]
Mister Postman!
(Mister Postman, look and see)
Is there a letter, oh, yeah, for me?
(Is there a letter in your bag for me?)
I've been waitin' such a long time
(I've been waitin' a long, long time)
Since I heard from that girlfriend of mine
[Outro: John Lennon, Paul McCartney & George Harrison & All]
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
Wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
Check it and see one more time for me
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
Wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
Mister Postman (Wait a minute, wait a minute)
Oh, yeah (Mister Postman)
Deliver the letter, the sooner the better
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
Wait a minute, wait a minute
Ooh! (Oh, yeah!)
(Mister Postman) You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
Oh, yeah! (Mister Postman)
Gotta wait a minute, wait a minute!
Aah! (Oh, yeah!) You gotta wait, wait a minute
(Oh, yeah, ooh!)
About
This soul track mostly revolves around the fact of the struggles of a long distance relationship. For the longest time, if you had someone that you loved far away from you, the only way that you could communicate was either by phone call or mail. Since phone bills would rack up pretty quick, it was usually cheaper to just send letters back and forth between each of you.
What the main character is struggling with in this song is that he misses his love so much, it brings him to tears that he hasn’t heard from her in forever. It probably has only been a week or so, but a week can seem like years when you are separated from your love.
The original song was recorded and released in 1961 by The Marvelettes.

Influenced by the Marvelettes, who did the original version. We got it from our fans, who would write PLEASE MR. POSTMAN on the back of the envelopes. ‘Posty, posty, don’t be slow, be like the Beatles and go, man, go!’ That sort of stuff.
