“MeGaLoVania” is one of the most well-recognised songs from the Homestuck soundtrack, and almost certainly the song Toby “Radiation” Fox is known for. The original “Megalovania,” was a short piece Toby composed for his Earthbound Halloween Hack, which was then remade into this version that features parts of “Sunsetter,” “Spider’s Claw,” and “The La2t Frontiier.”

The scene that features this track is a Flash animation called [S] Wake. As the opening of “MeGaLoVania” plays, Bec Noir kills Feferi and Nepeta’s dream selves, then destroys Derse. As the music crescendos, Aradia dies and ascends to godhood, becoming the Maid of Time. Before Bec Noir can kill her, she freezes him in time, and the music falls back down to the original Megalovania motif. As it builds up again, the scene transitions to Vriska fighting Tavros. One of Vriska’s themes, “Spider’s Claw,” comes into the song at full force as she darts around using her god powers as the Thief of Light and taunts Tavros, before grabbing his lance and impaling him with it. The song fades out to Tavros falling into the void.

It has long been argued whether “MeGaLoVania,” is Vriska or Aradia’s theme – both have pivotal moments that occur throughout the song, displaying their god powers in full force for the first time. However, since the official track art features Vriska and “Spider’s Claw” is very prominent in the second half, it could be inferred as an homage to Vriska more than Aradia. Notably, one of Sollux’s themes, “The La2t Frontiier,” is referenced in the song despite not appearing in the animation.

In 2015, Toby’s most famous version of the song, “MEGALOVANIA,” was released as part of the Undertale soundtrack. Undertale’s massive popularity and the notoriety of the scene which the song plays caused the other versions of “Megalovania” to quickly became well-known and beloved by millions of people.
