When Hideaki Anno needed a non-classical song to go with his now-famous Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series, a lyricist named Oikawa Neko did the good thing and wrote a upbeat J-POP song. With the direction of Anno, Oikawa and King Records label Toshimichi Otsuki, Yokō Takahashi did the rest, blending the philosphical madness of Anno with a brilliant, bright and oftentimes catching tune for any anime viewer to hear. As the opening to Neon Genesis Evangelion, it is often credited as one of the most iconic parts of the anime.
