Queen is the highly-anticipated fourth studio album by rapper Nicki Minaj. Released on August 10, 2018, through Young Money Records, and following 2014’s The Pinkprint, the album consists of twenty-two tracks, and focuses on Minaj’s life in the Hip-hop community at a time when she’s not the only successful female rapper dominating the scene.
It is Minaj’s most rap-oriented album to date, with over 77% of the album’s lyrical content consisting of rap. This continues a trend throughout Nicki’s discography with each album carrying a statistically higher rap-density than its predecessor.
The album was first announced on May 7 at the 2018 Met Gala, and Nicki herself confirmed in an interview that the album would be titled Queen, with a planned release date of June 15:
It’s a big night for me, because I just let the world know that my album is coming on June 15, and it’s called Queen and I can’t wait!
However, Minaj went on Instagram live on May 25th to announce the pushing back of Queen to August 10. Then, on August 1st, Nicki reported, through Apple Music’s Essentials playlist for Nicki Minaj, that she was pushing back the release date yet again to August 17, 2018. Queen was eventually released on August 10, the original day the album was supposed to drop. On June 7, the cover artwork for Queen was revealed through her social media accounts and Minaj called it her “best work to date”.
On June 10, Nicki said the following about the album:
I know it’s going to be my best body of work. That’s next on my bucket list – to deliver my fourth album and make sure that it’s a classic hip-hop album that people will never forget.

How well did the album do on the Billboard charts?
Queen peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and Top Rap Albums charts, giving Nicki her fourth top-2 album on both charts. It charted for 57 weeks on the main chart, her third longest charting album.

Why was the release date of Queen pushed back?
According Complex News, the reason behind the pushback is due to a track with Tracy Chapman is still yet to be cleared. She even pulled out a poll to let her fans decide whether or not to keep the track.

Why did Nicki Minaj cancel her tour with Future?
The duo were meant to initiate their NICKIHNDRXX Tour, which was planned to take place from areas in North America to Europe.
However, the dates for the North American leg of the tour have been postponed by Minaj herself, due to focusing on “rehearsal ahead of the tour’s launch to make certain her fans get the absolute best quality show that they deserve”, according to a press statement.
A Live Nation source told Page Six stated that this change of plan might be down to poor ticket sales:Nicki’s tour could be the most disappointing ticket sales of the year for any artist. These are big arenas with up to 20,000 capacities. Sales for opening night in Baltimore is 2,000 tickets. LA is 3,400, New Orleans 1,000, Denver 1,300, Chicago 3,900. Even her hometown Brooklyn is only 5,050."
The rapper herself addressed this issue in an Instagram post to clarify the reasoning behind this decision:
I haven’t CANCELLED anything. I reversed the order of the US & EUROPEAN LEGS of my tour. This is for obvious reasons to anyone with a brain. My album was originally going to drop in June which would’ve given me 3 months of tour rehearsal. However, I was still writing & recording up to last week. We are all grown, right? We can all do math, right? Or will they just pretend to not have basic sense so that they can board the Nicki Hate train & get some clicks? I can’t rehearse 4 WEEKS for a tour I originally planned on rehearsing 3 months for. I give my fans QUALITY. I write & co produce my own music. Therefore, I can’t rehearse while I’m WRITING & RECORDING my album. My true fans understand & know that I will deliver an extraordinary US TOUR which begins in MAY just like I delivered an extraordinary album entitled #Queen. My European fans get the SAME EXACT DATES they’ve always had. Australian fans SAME EXACT DATES they had. Cancelled what? Where?"
