About “A Moon Shaped Pool”

Rumours of Radiohead’s much anticipated ninth album (nicknamed LP9 by fans) began as early as mid to late 2015. In late April 2016, the band began teasing new material via a cryptic internet and social media campaign. On May 3, the band released the first single and music video, “Burn The Witch”. Three days later, the band released the second single, “Daydreaming” accompanied by a music video directed by acclaimed filmmaker and Jonny Greenwood collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson.

The entire album was released as a digital download on May 8, 2016. It revisits recording sessions during the Kid A and Amnesiac phase of the band’s career. Most songs featured on the record have appeared in various live incarnations in the past, but appear as studio versions for the first time on AMSP.

The album continues guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s musical direction featured in films, with lush orchestral arrangements performed by The London Contemporary Orchestra. The album deals with various sociopolitical themes, as well as those of personal loss. Producer Nigel Godrich tweeted:
