Joseph Adam “Joe” Jonas is an American singer-songwriter and actor from Wyckoff, New Jersey. He rose to fame from being a member of the Jonas Brothers, a pop-rock band that consisted of himself and his brothers, Nick and Kevin. The brothers also acted in the Camp Rock series and also had their own reality TV series called Jonas.
In 2011, the Jonas Brothers went on hiatus for about a year and a half. During their hiatus, Joe released his debut studio album, Fastlife, on October 11 that year. It was his only solo album and was supported by the singles “See No More” and “Just in Love,” the latter of which received a remix with a feature from rapper Lil Wayne. The brothers went on hiatus again in late 2013, which lasted for about the next six years.
In late 2015, Joe formed DNCE, a dance-rock band that consisted of himself, drummer Jack Lawless, guitarist JinJoo Lee, and bassist and keyboardist Cole Whittle. Its members, except for the latter, had previously toured with the Jonas Brothers together. That same year, DNCE released their debut single, “Cake by the Ocean,” which gained a lot of traction and reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. They released their self-titled debut studio album on November 18, 2016.
In early 2019, the Jonas Brothers reunited, which put DNCE on hiatus for about the next three years. The brothers released their comeback single, “Sucker,” which debuted and peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100. Their comeback album was their fifth studio album, Happiness Begins, which was released on June 7 that year and also entered atop the Billboard 200 in the first week. They did a world tour for the album from the summer of 2019 to the spring of 2020. Shortly after the album’s release, the band released numerous singles and collaborated with a few artists throughout the next few years.
In early 2022, DNCE reunited, with the exception of Cole Whittle, who did not return to the band as he began working on solo music during their hiatus and continued doing that. The band’s comeback single was their feature on record producer and DJ Kygo’s single, “Dancing Feet,” which was released shortly after their reunion. DNCE is currently on hiatus right now, which started in the spring of 2023 due to the three remaining members of the band all being a part of the Jonas Brothers.
The Jonas Brothers released their sixth studio album, The Album, on May 12, 2023. The band is currently on the Five. Albums. One. Night. World Tour, which started in the summer of 2023 and will end in the fall of 2024. They perform a medley of almost all of the songs from their five most recent albums, along with some Camp Rock songs and side project songs, which includes some of Nick’s solo music and some of the music that Joe made as part of DNCE.
Joe resumed making solo music in mid-2024. He released the single “Work It Out” on July 19, 2024. It is the lead single from his upcoming sophomore studio album, Music for People Who Believe in Love, which will be released on October 18, 2024. The album will be his first solo project in over 13 years and he has described it as his most personal project ever.
Aside from music, Joe has also had a pretty successful acting career, having starred in films such as Zoolander 2 (2016), Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018), and Devotion (2022).
