Koji Kondo

About Koji Kondo

Koji Kondo was born August 13, 1961 in Nagoya, Japan. He studied the electronic organ while a child and later played in a jazz and rock cover band. He was the third composer hired by Nintendo to write music for their games. The first game that Kondo wrote music for was the popular fighting game, “Punch-Out!” He is most known as the go-to composer for most popular Nintendo franchises, such as the Super Mario Series, and the Legend of Zelda series. He composed the internationally famous “Super Mario Bros. Theme”, the most well known video-game song. He composed the music for the hit releases Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, which helped the system to sell 60 million copies in total and established some of the most well-known melodies in the video game industry.
