Taurus Bucy Currie Jr, better known by his stage name Taurus, is an Atlanta-based DJ/producer, best known for being Gunna’s official tour DJ and hype man.
Alongside collaborators Wheezy and Turbo, Taurus served as one of the principal producers on Gunna’s 2020 album Wunna, notably producing “Skybox,” the album’s lead single.
In an August 2020 interview with No Jumper Taurus revealed that he was born in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Atlanta to study at Clark Atlanta University, as documented on his Instagram page, where he began DJing at local parties and nightclubs.
While DJing Taurus would frequently play Gunna’s music, which he would share via Instagram, which is how Gunna discovered him. After building a rapport with Gunna, Taurus proceeded to become Gunna’s official DJ, supporting him on the first North American leg of Travis Scott’s Astroworld – Wish You Were Here Tour in November and December 2018 and Gunna’s Drip or Drown 2 tour in 2019.
Taurus was interviewed in the official documentary for Wunna and was shown producing the track “Nasty Girl/On Camera” with Gunna freestyling over the beat. Additionally, Taurus produced “Sun Came Out,” which was featured on the deluxe edition of Wunnaand appeared in the song’s music video, which was filmed while on tour in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Taurus has traveled the world with Gunna, DJing for him throughout 2018, 2019, and 2020 in North America, Europe, and Australia. Notably, during Gunna’s set at Rolling Loud Miami in 2019, Taurus received significant backlash, with many criticizing his “annoying” voice and overbearing stage presence. Taurus addressed this criticism in his No Jumper interview, claiming that the reason for his erratic behavior was a result of being high.
On June 3, 2018, Taurus and Gunna were arrested in Jonesboro, Arkansas after a police officer found marijuana and other illicit substances inside their car, with Taurus claiming ownership of the drugs. They were released on bond for $2,500 and charged the next day.
