Founded and incorporated as the World Wrestling Federation on February 21, 1980, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has been on the forefront of professional wrestling and “sports entertainment”, a term coined and popularized by WWE co-founder, majority shareholder, CEO and Chairman of the Board Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
As in other professional wrestling promotions, WWE shows are not legitimate contests, but purely entertainment-based, featuring storyline-driven, scripted, and choreographed matches, though they often include moves that can put performers at risk of injury if not performed correctly.
