About Rap-Rock
Rap Rock is a fusion of rap or hip-hop with rock. It shares a lot of similarities with nu-metal and is a kind of parent to rap metal and some kinds of emo rap.
The genre has roots that go almost as far back as Rap itself, some DJs started working Rock music into their sets and some rappers started using more Rock style instrumentals in their songs. A lot of Rap Rock, especially earlier songs, is built around samples from pre-existing rock songs with new rap vocals laid over them. There’s also a history of established Hip-Hop and Rock artists collaborating, either on remixes of an older song or on fully new tracks. One of the oldest and most popular examples of this, Run–DMC’s remix of “Walk This Way” was one of the first breakthroughs for rap rock and hip-hop in general.
Rap rock also has a history of taking influences from other genres, including funk and soul.
