The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has initiated a six-day workshop in Lagos (Nov 25–30) to strengthen risk communication and community engagement during public health emergencies. Funded by the Canadian CanGiVE project, this initiative is part of WHO's SURGE program targeting emergency preparedness. Participants include health officials, journalists, and security personnel, focusing on proactive risk messaging, infodemic management, and community awareness. The workshop will extend to six geopolitical zones, aiming to improve disease prevention and response at all levels. Key speakers emphasized the importance of capacity building, early preparedness, and adaptable communication strategies to empower communities and curb outbreaks effectively.
