Ghana’s inflation (CPI) has declined from 54.1% in December,2022 to 23.2% in December,2023. The Executive Board of the IMF approved a $3 billion 36 months Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program for Ghana in May,2023. A key objective of the program is to bring inflation back to single digits. CPI stood at 42.2% in May,2023. The ECF program is on course to achieve this target. But key questions remain; 1. Food inflation is still high. According to the December release by the GSS, food and non-alcoholic beverages’ share of inflation across divisions was 52.6%. This is still high! 2. Inflation for locally produced items is 23.8% as compared to inflation for imported items which stood at 21.9%. This downward trajectory needs to be sustained. 3.
