Trends shaping the Ghanaian equity market - September 2024

GHANA’S SECOND QUARTER GDP GROWTH REACHES 5 YEAR-HIGH 📈 Ghana’s economy expanded at its fastest pace in five years, as fresh provisional GDP data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) for Q2 2024 shows that the economy grew by 6.9% year-on-year, up from the revised 2.5% GDP growth rate recorded in the same period last year. The economic output for the first quarter of the year generated a total real GDP (GDP at constant prices) of GHS 45.21 billion, up from GHS 38.94 billion recorded in Q2 2023.

July Inflation Snapshot 📸📈 July 2024 saw Ghana's inflation rate ease to 20.9%, continuing its downward trend driven by reductions in both food and non-food categories. While the Central Bank has kept the monetary policy rate steady at 29.0% to manage inflation and stabilize the exchange rate, there’s cautious optimism that this trend could lead to a further reduction in the policy rate to stimulate economic activity, bringing the nation closer to its year-end inflation target of 15%.
