At Savana Signatures, we agree with Samantha Power that, Violence against women isn’t cultural; it is criminal and equality cannot come eventually, It is something we must fight now as we stand in solidarity with the global movement to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. As we mark the 3rd day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we reaffirm our commitment to addressing Child, Early, and Forced Marriage and Unions (CEFMU) in the Sagnarigu Municipality and in Ghana. Through the ASBC Activity, supported by the Ghana Health Service Safety Net Program, the Departments of Social Welfare and Community Development, and the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, we are working tirelessly to challenge harmful social norms and protect the rights of women and girls by engaging religious leaders and traditional authorities as key gatekeepers in the fight against CEFMU and highlighting the generational effects of CEFMU and advocating for change. This week we continued our campaign against Child, Early and Forced Marriage and Unions (CEFMU) in Northeast, as we partnered with Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, DOVVSU and Social Welfare, to create mindfulness on the negative effects of child marriage and the legal rights of children and adolescents. We met with chiefs, opinion leaders, women leaders, youth, and Child Social Protection Committees to address the problems. The gatekeepers are committing to reviewing social norms that fuel the practice as they acknowledged teenage pregnancy as a key driver of child marriage. During our “YOUR VOICE FOR MATTER" project engagements in all the 8 districts of the Oti region, a critical issue came to light: WOMEN ARE OFTEN EXCLUDED FROM ELECTION-RELATED ACTIVITIES, LEAVING THEM WITHOUT THE INFORMATION THEY NEED TO MAKE INFORMED VOTING DECISIONS. Marginalized women, women with disabilities, those from poor households, and island communities in the region, face even greater barriers in the electoral process, preventing them from exercising their right to vote. With just 17 days to Ghana’s general elections, it’s time to address these gaps and ensure inclusive participation for all women in Ghana’s elections. To create effective lesson plans that integrate Social and Emotional Learning as well as Reproductive Health Education concepts for learners, Savana Signatures is deepening the knowledge base of teachers in the Suhum municipality and Ayensuanu district of the Eastern region. Aiming at promoting emotional intelligence, resilience, and healthy social behaviours among learners, the training is focused on equipping teachers with practical skills and methods to incorporate these important models into their classroom.
