Intentionally building a world of Hope in which every child can grow up safe to its full potential without any Threats.

About us

Starlight Foundation is a non-governmental organization, with the aim of creating opportunities for street-connected children to help give them a better life and future. It seeks to do this by looking holistically at the life of the street-connected child and addressing as many concerns as possible. These include: fight for the rights of individuals on the streets, particularly the girl child and those found in some remote areas of the country, and also fight against sex objectification culture. We also work towards eliminating all forms of discrimination against women, women empowerment, and the achievement of gender equality. Access to quality education is one of our key objectives for the street-connected children which we do in partnership with some reputable and reliable institutions. Those interested in learning a trade or vocation are not left out of the equation taking into account their age. The Foundation also provides public education on streetism to help create awareness on the dangers of streetism and to provide a better means of ending the problem in Ghana. Our Vision - Building a world of Hope in which every child/youth can grow up safe, in Good Health, and to its Full Potential without any Threats. We are hoping to come up with projects and programs that will directly or indirectly benefit over 10,000 children and their families every year. Some of it will focus on education, healthcare, and women empowerment, in selected remote villages and slums across Ghana.

  • Over the years, the Starlight Foundation has delivered early intervention to at-risk young children through its award-winning 'Teach Them Young' initiative, which has helped prevent their transition into street life. During our interactions, participation and feedback have been crucial in understanding the patterns that lead children to live on the streets. One of our key approaches is equipping these children with the knowledge to make positive choices that steer them away from street life. This year's International Day of the Street Child focuses on the importance of supporting children's participation in decisions affecting their livelihood, raising the question of whether children are sufficiently empowered to advocate for themselves. We are addressing abuse and exploitation through proper channels by highlighting the plight of vulnerable children in their communities and encouraging them to join the fight against street life by speaking up about issues at early stages. We extend our gratitude to the authorities at Mamfe Methodist Junior High School and the Ghana Ambulance Service for providing an in-depth session with students on emergency health interventions. When they understand their healthcare rights and options, vulnerable children are better equipped to protect their health. Through the generous support of Wings of Support, we have provided essential educational supplies, including exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, and sanitisers to these children. This demonstrates that when given proper tools and opportunities to participate, children can break the cycle of poverty and create meaningful change in their communities. #TeachThemYoung #EarlyIntervention #ChildDevelopment #StarlightFoundation #WingsOfSupport #ChildEducation #HumanRights #ChildRights #TransformingLives #CreatingImpact #Participation #InternationalDayofStreetChildren #IDSC2025

  • We are delighted to announce the successful selection of 10 deserving families for the third cohort of our Menso Meka Ho Bi initiative. This milestone represents the windup of a thorough and collaborative selection process, affirmed by Starlight Foundation's robust Theory of Change methodology. Our commitment to reducing streetism in the Teshie Maamle community, known for its high concentration of street-connected children, has been strengthened through strategic partnerships. Working closely with the municipal assembly, head teachers, administrators, and community leaders, we implemented a comprehensive selection framework that ensures support reaches those most in need. The Starlight Foundation's Theory of Change emphasises community collaboration as a cornerstone of sustainable impact. This approach has enabled us to identify and support families where intervention will have the most significant effect on preventing and reducing streetism. The Menso Meka Ho Bi initiative, a joint initiative between Starlight Foundation and Adamfo Ghana NGO, with valuable financial support from Jan Tuithof, aims to bridge the educational inequality gap. Our comprehensive approach includes providing educational access from primary through secondary levels for underprivileged and street-connected children. Also, we focus on parent empowerment through skills training, enabling families to build sustainable livelihoods and create stable home environments. We look forward to sharing the transformative journey of these families as they embark on this life-changing opportunity. #MensoMekaHoBi #Cohort3 #EndStreetism #AdamfoGhana #StarlightFoundation #Education #FamilyEmpowerment #TransformingLives #CommunityImpact #SocialImpact #Education #EmpowermentJourney #NonProfit #SocialChange #Ghana #JanTuithof

  • Why wait until children are on the streets? At Starlight Foundation, we believe that preventing children from entering street life is more effective than rehabilitation. Through our early intervention initiative, we engage actively with at-risk children before they end up on the streets. We collaborate closely with local schools and communities to identify vulnerable children and provide the support they need to stay in school and avoid street life. Our award-winning programme is designed to raise awareness about fire and health safety, educate children about potential career paths, and highlight the challenges posed by street life. Over the years, we have conducted impactful workshops for students throughout Ghana. In line with this mission, Starlight brings together professionals from various sectors, including the Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ambulance Service, and the National Commission for Civic Education. These professionals provide children with practical, hands-on knowledge to help them avoid accidents and make informed decisions as they transition into adulthood. This year, in partnership with Wings of Support, we are empowering young people to stay in school by providing supplies such as exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, and sanitisers. We also emphasise the need for greater action to protect the rights, safety, and well-being of street-connected children. #TeachThemYoung #EarlyIntervention #ChildDevelopment #StarlightFoundation #WingsOfSupport #ChildEducation #HumanRights #ChildRights #TransformingLives #CreatingImpactout

  • "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." - John Dewey We’re excited to share the incredible impact of the Menso Meka Ho Bi initiative, a collaboration between Starlight Foundation and Adamfo Ghana NGO. This powerful partnership is tackling streetism at its roots by addressing both immediate economic challenges and long-term educational needs. Through this initiative, we've empowered over 20 street-connected families with sustainable income sources, overcoming the cycle of poverty that often leads to street life. The programme's comprehensive approach doesn't just stop at economic empowerment – it opens doors to education through robust scholarships for street-connected children, believing firmly that education is the most powerful tool for lasting change. As we prepare to start Cohort 3, which will support 10 more families, we're witnessing how education can transform not just individual lives, but entire communities. Each child we help off the streets and into a classroom represents a future of possibilities, dreams, and potential waiting to be unleashed. Starlight Foundation and Adamfo Ghana NGO, with the invaluable support of Jan Tuithof, are proving that when we invest in education and sustainable livelihoods, we create changes that extend far beyond the immediate beneficiaries. We're not just providing scholarships; we're building foundations for generational transformation. Education remains our most powerful tool for social change. When we educate a child, we don't just change their future – we transform the trajectory of entire families and communities. The Menso Meka Ho Bi initiative stands as a prove to what's possible when organisations come together with a shared vision of creating lasting impact through education and economic empowerment. Together, we're not just dreaming of a future where no child has to call the streets their home – we're actively building it. #MensoMekaHoBi #Cohort3 #EndStreetism #AdamfoGhana #StarlightFoundation #Education #FamilyEmpowerment #TransformingLives #CommunityImpact #SocialImpact #Education #EmpowermentJourney #NonProfit #SocialChange #Ghana #JanTuithof
