Strategic Youth Network for Development : SYND GHANA

This year, we are commencing a dedicated effort to engage youth on the critical subject matter of ocean governance. Our first stop was Ekon in the Cape Coast Metropolis, where in collaboration with Nature Stewards, we engaged 116 community members. The interactive engagement saw participants sharing their understanding of ocean conservation, the challenges they face, and how engagements like this help build their awareness. Key concerns raised included the lack of sanitation facilities, which pushes residents into harmful environmental practices, and plastic pollution. This situation continues to worsen due to limited waste collection services. The discussion also highlighted the crucial role of youth in tackling these issues through active participation in ocean conservation efforts. The community emphasized the urgent need for stronger waste management solutions, and we remain committed to equipping young people with the knowledge and resources needed to drive positive environmental change. With support from the French Embassy in Ghana, this initiative aims to help coastal communities protect their environment and build a sustainable future to collectively safeguard Ghana’s marine ecosystems for generations to come. #OceanGovernance #YouthForTheOcean #SustainableCoasts
