Major General Anita Asmah- The first African Woman Force Commander. Cheers to Ghana, this profound achievement alongside the Vice President Elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and @Shirley Ayorkor Botchway Secretary General of the Commonwealth it shows Ghana is doing something profoundly right. In the past few months I have had a couple of discussions with young men and women on the continuous development of empowering the “girl child” one recently at the founders party at The Enterprise Village by Crowdpen. Well, a couple of young men had the opinion that the “boy child“ was being left behind and that the plains of equality have been leveled so girls now have equal opportunity as men and there’s no need to keep on focusing on only girls. I’m not sure what kind of bias that is but I find most people in urban areas think like this, the focus is not to stop at celebrating the few that have pushed beyond barriers to change the status quo but to give that same opportunity to every girl in the world. And the misconception that the girl child singularly being focused on is not entirely true, some projects are generally being implemented badly but many more are doing the right thing by including the boy child on the journey of empowering the girl child/woman. One such bright example was the Gender Transformative Approach to SME Business development with GIZ Ghana AgriBiz Program. Where community, bothe genders from different aspects of influence to the business were being included in the discussion of Business Development. I quickly pointed to my dear friends that stats very much show it would still take the world the next 100 years to level the plains for both genders, and we’re just getting started. I’m extremely proud today as a young Ghanaian girl, this doesn’t mean stop at all, but rather “more vim”, till every little girl everywhere in Ghana can say “I want to be a General when I grow up” , the privilege of “having an option” as I would call it. Everyone deserves that. Thank you General Anita Asmah for setting the bar higher, your country is proud of you and thank you for showing us it can be done, to every other woman out there wearing multiple hats (some invisible to others) keep shining, you’re not doing too much, we’re just getting started. #womenempowerment #girlchild #genderequality

Major General Anita Asmah of Ghana makes history as the United Nations' first African woman Force Commander. On December 11, 2024, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Ghana’s Major General Anita Asmah as the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). Major General Asmah will make history as the UN’s first African woman Force Commander. Her appointment is a significant milestone and a step forward for women and for efforts towards gender parity in peacekeeping. This is why many of her colleagues are excited about this appointment. Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye, former Deputy Force Commander for the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO), says she is "truly elated," adding that "with this appointment, Ghana is setting an example for Africa" and urged troop-contributing countries to deploy more senior women, enabling them to take on leadership roles. For Ghanaians, Major General Asmah’s journey is particularly inspiring. A proud alumna of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, she serves as a role model, showcasing how determination and hard work can lead to remarkable achievements and significant contributions on national and global levels. She also holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees from the University of Ghana and is fluent in English and French. Find out more about Major General Asmah: http://bit.ly/4gdPcJp

  • As a startup founder, one lesson stands out above all: time is the only resource you can’t replenish. Money can be raised. Teams can grow. Mistakes can be corrected. But once time is spent, it’s gone for good. That’s why investing your time wisely is critical to your success. Focus on what truly moves the needle—whether it’s building the right product, connecting with the right customers, or nurturing a strong team culture. Every decision matters. Every minute counts. Startups aren’t just about working hard—they’re about working smart. Make your time count. #Startups #Entrepreneurship #TimeManagement #Growth

  • On Friday, November 29, 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting the incredible ladies from the Yeekyin Chapter of the DAAKYE Project, an empowering initiative led by the United Nations Nations in Ghana through UNAIDS , UNICEF Ghana, World Health Organization and in partnership with the French Embassy in Ghana, and The Reformation Community. This was part of their 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, to support young women from rural communities in the Manya Krobo District who are survivors of gender-based violence. These young women are currently developing skills in nails and hair artistry as a pathway to resilience and economic independence. Our team had the honor to share valuable insights on transforming entrepreneurial skills into successful, adaptive, and creative businesses. We also discussed the journey of becoming a successful entrepreneur in Ghana, the challenges to anticipate, and how to leverage social media to boost brand visibility. It was an inspiring and empowering session, and we’re proud to have hosted such passionate and driven women! 💪✨ #Entrepreneurship #WomenInBusiness #EnterpriseVillage #BusinessTips #BrandVisibility #GhanaEntrepreneurs #Empowerment
