Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 girls globally don’t complete lower-secondary school, often due to challenges like period poverty? This critical issue limits their futures and impacts their ability to contribute fully to their communities. On #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild, we reflect on the importance of addressing these barriers. KODU TECHNOLOGY, from UNICEF StartUp Lab cohort 4, is tackling this issue by producing #affordable, eco-friendly sanitary pads made from banana and plantain fibers. This innovation is helping girls in underserved communities stay in school and manage their periods with dignity. Investing in girls isn’t just the right thing to do—it strengthens families, communities, and economies. #MentalHealth is just as important as our physical health. 🧠💪🏽 That’s why RiviaCo, a current participant in UNICEF StartUp Lab Cohort 4, is actively addressing mental health challenges. They are providing support through clinics, integrating mental health services into primary health care, and working in communities to reduce stigma.
