2024 Regional Food Fair Officially Opened In Basse Mini Staduim! The much-anticipated 2024 Regional Food Fair, organized by the National Association of Food Processors (NAFP) with funding from the ROOTS Project, kicked off today at the Basse Mini Stadium. The event was officially inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Trade, Mr. Baboucarr O. Joof, who delivered an inspiring address reaffirming the government's commitment to supporting local food producers. In his speech, Honourable Joof emphasized his vision of seeing "Made in The Gambia" products in every supermarket and at every ceremony across the country. He announced the government's ambitious plan to transform the Social Development Fund into a development bank aimed at empowering Gambian investors and entrepreneurs. The Regional Governor expressed profound gratitude to the NAFP for selecting Basse as the venue and extended thanks to the ROOTS Project for its critical support in reducing post-harvest losses. He highlighted key interventions such as the provision of cold stores and onion curing facilities, which have significantly benefited local food producers and processors. The President of the NAFP also took the stage to thank the ROOTS Project for its continued support and urged the government to expand assistance to further empower food processors in The Gambia. Additionally, the ROOTS Project Director highlighted the critical role food processors play in supporting their funded vegetable gardens. He reaffirmed ROOTS' commitment to empowering food processors, ensuring they can maximize the value of their produce while reducing waste. The opening ceremony concluded with the symbolic cutting of the ribbon, followed by a guided tour of the vibrant stalls showcasing a wide array of local food products. The five-day event brings together 40 food processors, offering a platform to display their innovative products, network, and engage with potential partners and customers.
