𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞! 🌱   This December 5th, we're celebrating the importance of healthy soil by highlighting one of our most unique local residents: the 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥 (𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴) 🐿️.    𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴 is endemic to Central and South-Eastern Europe. This means that this species does not exist elsewhere in the world. At the Agricultural Farm of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), where our Lab operates, these small, burrowing mammals live in colonies beneath our feet, nesting in underground burrows. The European ground squirrel relies entirely on the soil for its home—creating underground tunnels where it sleeps, breeds, and even hibernates. Sadly, it's now considered a "threatened" species, facing a decline due to soil degradation and habitat loss.   So, the health of our soils directly impacts the survival of this unique animal, which in turn, plays a role in maintaining soil quality and biodiversity.   #WorldSoilDay #soilhealth #soilquality #soilbiodiversity #europeangroundsquirrel #soildegradation

Το i-BEC συμμετείχε ως επιστημονικά υπεύθυνος εταίρος του προγράμματος CARBONICA. Το θέμα "Γεωργία Άνθρακα: Νέες επιχειρηματικές ευκαιρίες στον γεωργικό τομέα" φαίνεται ότι κέντρισε το ενδιαφέρον αγροτών, συμβούλων γεωπόνων, φοιτητών και ερευνητών όλων των ηλικιών. ⛰️Η υγεία του εδάφους "παίζει " έναν καθοριστικό ρόλο στην μείωση των επιπτώσεων μετά από μια φυσική καταστροφή, όπως είναι μια πλημμύρα. 🟢 Στο Διαβαλκανικό Κέντρο Περιβάλλοντος παράγουμε λύσεις που προάγουν την υγεία του εδάφους αλλά και την μείωση των εκπομπών των αερίων του θερμοκηπίου που ευθύνονται για την κλιματική κρίση.
