Globalworth Campus Conference Hall Design: Bobotis+Bobotis Architects Designed to serve as a multiple-purpose home to a diverse range of concerts and events, the Conference Hall in Bucharest is a dynamic environment which can be moulded to the needs of its visitors and the requirements of events. As such, a minimal environment becomes a stage for the imagination to flourish. Housing 734 people at full capacity, guests enter the main atrium through double doors on each side of the entrance. Inside, an inclined surface can house retractable steps if needed, which are otherwise subtly stored at the back of the hall. Establishing a clear and distinct identity for the conference hall in spite of the flexible requirements of the space, the hall’s showcase feature comes in the form of a clear sound booth which spans the width and breadth of the ceiling. The booth acts both as a design feature, but also serves as an insulating presence, and houses the central speaker and lighting systems. The hall interiors are clad in a striped wooden element which further insulates the room. From the main hall, there is also access to a translator’s room and technical room. In the foyer, thick-set industrial beams support the hall’s slanted roof and key features include wood panelled ceilings and window-lined walls, which optimise natural light throughout the entrance space.

PPC / ΔΕΗ Headquarters Bobotis+Bobotis Architects The Public Power Corporation S.A. building offers a vision for a biophilic future. Built to the highest standards of sustainable specifications, the design aims towards a LEED and WELL Platinum certificate. Not only is the building conceived to nurture nature, but also to support employee mental health through a positive working environment. As such, there is a correspondence between form and function, with the entire building orientated towards optimising natural light, and offering open, free flowing interiors. Featuring a modern glass exterior, three parts of the building are arranged in symmetry. The central rectangular central form is fronted by a steel lattice. This main structure anchors the building’s two wings, which feature curved facades that stretch out around the forecourt. Louvres surround the whole body of the building to regulate the impact of sunlight. On the roof, the curved canopy is lined with solar panels to organically power the everyday needs of the company. Traffic regulation is also addressed through the introduction of four entrances and exits for cars via the underground parking, which can be altered as needed to manage congestion during busier periods. Inside, a full height lobby reflects the ecological principles of the design. Here, walls lined with greenery compliment a projection of running water across an expansive wall. The greenery also masks technical infrastructural elements that sit behind it. Light floods the interior though the lattice structure, and a spiral staircase encourages healthy living.

Set on the spectacular coastline of Fokos bay on Mykonos island in Greece, this luxury villa brings together the interplay of strong structural elements and soft, organic materials within a diverse natural environment. The house is orientated towards the sea, with a sweeping terracotta-tiled terrace providing expansive, 270 degree views out across the Aegean. Each room is influenced by its relationship with this view, with an emphasis on natural light, open-plan living and earthy tones throughout. The villa itself consists of three levels, featuring bedrooms, indoor and outdoor kitchens and living rooms, as well as a swimming pool, outdoor bar and fire pit. At the main entrance, celosia panels on the wall have been used to bring warmth into the night, with the open terracotta brick allowing light to filter through. Corten clad door frames protrude from the facade of the villa, the rust-coloured frames evoking the natural surroundings. Inside, bedrooms are demarcated by arch entrances, allowing for a free flow between the rooms and between bedrooms and bathrooms. In each bedroom, custom-made wooden wardrobes, wooden beams and engraved wooden slat details bring textural warmth that compliments stone walls and floors. At the heart of the villa is the master bedroom. Here, a unique design delivers truly open-plan living. A free-standing shower, created from green marble sourced from the neighbouring island of Tinos, denotes one side of the room, while on the other, the sea-facing bed is similarly denoted by green marble.
