Incredible knowledge was gained at the Generative AI and Creative Economies in Movie Production conference yesterday. It was a real joy to be a part of, the speakers were just outstanding. The insights into AI and how it will affect industry went well beyond the screen sector. They have huge implications for what we do in web production as well. The DCN Pacific Islands Hub Launch concluded in Fiji, bringing together 100 participants from across the Pacific Islands to collaborate on advancing digital development in the region. Over the course of two days, experts, influencers and stakeholders explored challenges and opportunities unique to the Pacific, laying the groundwork for a more connected and empowered digital future. A huge thank you to our inspiring speakers and all the participants who made this event a success. Your ideas and enthusiasm are driving the region's digital transformation forward. 

The "Generative AI and Creative Economies in Movie Production" DCN Global conference, held on December 5 at the Rydges Wellington Hotel, was a buzzing hub of ideas and discussion. The event brought together an impressive lineup of speakers and panelists to dive into how AI is shaking up the creative industries. Keynote speakers included Renard T. Jenkins (USA - speaking in the 🎥 ), President of I2A2 Technologies; Kathryn Brillhart (USA), a whiz in virtual production and cinematography; Rachel Joy Victor (USA), co-founder of FBRC.ai; Kristy Grant, CEO of Lane Street Studios; and Ben Reid, a futurist with a focus on exponential technologies. Also joining were Lance Lones a VFX pro who’s worked on Avatar and Lord of the Rings; Nicci Lock, producer and strategist; 🎬 Rachel C. VFX producer behind projects like Loki and Furiosa; Rhonda Kite, ONZM - Te Aupouri, Ngati Kuri, Ngai Takoto, English a trailblazer amplifying Māori stories; and Dimitris Dimitriadis, a futurist and advisor on AI-powered innovation. They explored how AI is transforming visual effects, enhancing creative workflows, and driving more inclusive storytelling—all while keeping ethics and sustainability at the forefront. The discussions covered cutting-edge topics like volumetric capture, real-time rendering, and virtual production, along with the big-picture impacts of AI on global and local film and digital communication industries. Panelists shared real-world case studies showing how AI is reshaping blockbuster productions, changing storytelling, marketing, social media, and creating new tools for media creation. Collaboration and inclusivity were key themes, with a focus on making advanced tech accessible to everyone. The crowd was just as impressive, featuring industry pros adding to the meaningful discussions on such a wide impacting and important topic. The mix of global and local talent made it clear: New Zealand is carving out its spot as a creative and tech innovation powerhouse.
