The EEA Grants—as an EEA financial mechanism—have had a continuous presence in Greece over the last 25 years. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA and Norway Grants have allocated a total of 2.8 billion euros, 116.7 million of which allocated to Greece, via Protocol 38c. The Donor countries and Greece signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the 2014-2021 EEA Grants on 31 October 2017, agreeing to nine (9) new programmes. Out of these programmes, five (5) are managed by the Greek Authorities and four (4) by the FMO. In the MoU, there is also a provision for a Fund for Bilateral Relations, which aims to empower initiatives across sectors and countries, so as to strengthen bilateral relations between the Donor countries and the Beneficiary ones.

#eeaGrantsGR #WeCanBecomeMore The National Focal Point attended the presentation of the Civil Society Action Plan yesterday, Tuesday, November 27, organized by the Bodossaki Foundation. The Action Plan outlines the current state of Civil Society in Greece, gathers best practices from international experience, identifies areas for improvement, and proposes changes centered on three pillars: institutional functioning, financial sustainability, and social interaction. The donor countries—Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway—have long prioritized funding this program as a vehicle for defending democracy in Europe and upholding the principles enshrined in the EU Treaty and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. 📍 In the current funding period, the EEA and Norway Grants allocated to Greece €14,306,326. For the next period, the fund will focus on strengthening civil society’s capacity to tackle issues such as disinformation, hate speech, and the erosion of independent journalism—critical challenges that threaten democracy in Europe today. 📍 Read the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/d5Ku6PY2 #workingtogether #eeaGrantsCommunity #commitment #democracy Norwegian Embassy in Athens

#eeaGrantsGR Renewable Energy Sources (#RES) are now stepping up to power the future, demanding swift and bold action to secure a sustainable energy transition. Greece is setting an ambitious target: achieving 80% RES penetration by 2030, as laid out in the new National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). The "Renewable Energy Sources" program has already transformed 13 public social infrastructure sites across the country. These cutting-edge technologies are revolutionizing buildings, enhancing indoor environments, and dramatically improving energy efficiency, slashing electricity and fuel consumption. This not only slashes operating costs but also shrinks environmental footprints. These innovative solutions are set to inspire a "new culture" of sustainable growth in the 13 communities, showcasing the future of energy-efficient living. Now, more than ever, backing RES is crucial as Greece embraces a bold new era of sustainable development and energy independence. #workingtogether #EEAGrantsCommunity #WeCanBecomeMore EEA and Norway Grants @EEAGREnergy Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES)
