"Sustainability and Traceability of European Cotton” — studio MM04 has organized two very insightful workshops for and with EUCOTTON at the BSP Business & Law School Berlin (Fakultät Creative Business) and Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin universities. We’re very happy about the active participation of many students, the curious questions and the open discussions that took place. Our client EUCOTTON had the opportunity to share their knowledge on natural materials and the benefits and challenges of European cotton for the future of our fashion & textile industry. Throughout the workshops, we explored the quality and sustainability aspects of European cotton, its role in the circular economy, and the importance of traceable value chains for the more regulated future of fashion in Europe, highlighting the critical role of European cotton in driving sustainability, the game-changing potential of the traceability platform, and the importance of responsible sourcing in leading sustainable practices. A special thanks to the main contributors: Anta Tsaira, who offered an insightful overview about the European Cotton Alliance, covering sustainable production practices and the importance of traceability and Panos Sofianos, who discussed how the fashion industry can adopt more responsible sourcing practices and the integral role of European cotton in more sustainable and circular European value chains; and to our wonderful co-hosts: Prof. Marte Hentschel and Prof. Dr. Sabantina who made the workshops possible in the first place. 👉🏻 On the evening of December 11, 2024, a remarkable gathering unfolded in Paris, as members of the European Cotton Alliance (ECA) convened for the inaugural meeting with prominent figures from #France's #fashion and #textile sector.   💚 The EUCOTTON event, elegantly hosted at Espace Clery—a venue that pays homage to Paris's rich textile heritage—served as a platform for an enlightening #conference. 💯 Over 100 distinguished attendees, representing every facet of the fashion industry, including brands, CSR and sourcing managers, federations, and manufacturers, engaged in meaningful dialogue, exchanging #insights and experiences.   🌱This event fostered an environment ripe for constructive discussions, uniting professionals dedicated to addressing the pressing issues of #quality, #sustainability, #localization, and innovative #solutions.   ✌🏻EUCOTTON stands as a unifying force, encompassing the entirety of #cotton production in #Europe, with the vision of harmonizing its stakeholders. A highly productive meeting was convened at Maximou Mansion, featuring the participation of Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, alongside the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Kostas Tsiaras, and the Minister of State, Mr. Akis Skertsos.   The primary focus of the discussion was the enhancement of the promotion of Greek-European #cotton as part of the EUCOTTON initiative. This significant meeting was organized at the behest of the Cotton Interprofessional Organization (DOB), which received immediate support from the Prime Minister. This pivotal gathering, marking a significant moment for the industry, was attended by the President of DOB, Mr. Thymios Foteinos, the President of the European Cotton Alliance (ECA), Mr. Antonios Siarkos, as well as members of the DOB Board of Directors, including Mr. Dimitris Polychronos cotton spinner & ginner, and Mr. Vasilis Giannakos.   The dialogue centered on enhancing the unique #quality and #value of Greek-European cotton, bolstering its international recognition, and aligning it with a broader strategy aimed at the #sustainable development of cotton farming within the nation.
