👋🏼 Fresh off the press insights from the Gartner IT Symposium! Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ Only a minority of enterprises already have (Gen)AI Assistants and Agents in production. 2️⃣ The use cases for (Gen)AI Assistants and Agents are similar to the pre-GenAI era, but now with agentic autonomy, they promise to accelerate and save costs for business processes even more. Some exciting use cases are emerging in software development with coding agents. 3️⃣ Calculating the ROI for (Gen)AI solutions is still in progress, but a common benefit is that employees get some work time back and have a better working experience overall. Some thoughts after attending the Gartner IT Symposium in Barcelona which ended yesterday. Apart from the vision about how AI will evolve (it's bright and agentic of course!), here are some insights that shaped in my head while attending sessions and talking with participants. 1️⃣ The enterprises that already have (Gen)AI Assistants and Agents in production are a minority. So if you don't have one yet, don't be stressed! There is a lot of activity in terms of pilots and PoCs, but there are far less actual live enterprise (Gen)AI Assistants and Agents, and a large number of the pilots don't look like they will be deployed live in production at all. There are several reasons for this, including worries about compliance and unpredictable costs, and performance not always meeting the (hyped) expectations. If you have similar doubts we are happy to help plan a safe course of action, feel free to reach out 🤓. 2️⃣ The prototypical use cases for (Gen)AI Assistants and Agents are more or less the same as before the GenAI era. Whether it's the customer support assistants or HR employee assistants or underwriting assistants in the insurance sector, etc, the goal is the same, along with the promise is that now with agentic autonomy they will work end-to-end, accelerating and saving costs for business processes more than before. There are new additions to these use cases, e.g., one extension of customer support and sales for retail is employing AI "telesales" agents that can proactively call consumers to inform them about new products -- even though I'm not sure how customers are going to take this to be honest. One exception where we see novel and exciting use cases is in software development where coding agents seem to be doing meaningful work, without yet case studies though that shed light on how these codebases are maintained and work after being deployed in production. 3️⃣ Overall, it is still not clear how to calculate the ROI for (Gen)AI solutions. One commonly identified benefit across functions and sectors is that employees do get some of their work time back and have a better working experience overall, but this "saved time" is not yet linked to a clear return of investment in terms of, well, money. One related concept is that of "productivity leakage", i.e., employees may save some time per day but this may lead to enjoying an "extra chai latte", as it was mentioned, instead of realizing some productivity boost -- I don't like the way this is presented, but I guess it reflects how many businesses think about work environment and productivity. At helvia.ai what we've seen is that teams that employ GenAI can reliably support a growing business, e.g., launching a new product or opening their business to a new country, without the stress of rapidly increasing their headcount and training new hires. #AI #GenAI #Enteprise #Assistants #Agents #Trends

🔎🕵️♀️ The 2nd LAW-GAME pilot was a success! 🎉 helvia.ai’s Lefteris Loukas and Stratos Papadoudis recently presented at the opening day of the 2nd European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence - 21st Advanced Course on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI & ACAI 2024 - https://lnkd.in/eREDxGab)! 🤖 Their presentation titled “Anatomy of GenAI Chatbots & Cost-effective LLM Use” focused on two key areas, namely the anatomy of GenAI chatbots through RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) with Citations and Semantic Caching. 💬 RAG with Citations allows for user transparency and streamlines action workflows. With citations included in the answers, various actions can be automated through APIs. LLM hallucinations decrease as the LLM is specifically prompted to answer with citation-grounded responses. Also, NLP engineers can quantitatively assess the task’s performance by tackling this mostly as a classification task. 💻 The specialized LLM caching service, RAG-Buddy, offers a cost-effective solution to operational costs per answer. Unlike other services which use exact matching techniques, RAG-Buddy's methodology employs semantic caching and can detect similar stored queries. 🎉 The final plenary meeting of the LAW-GAME took place 3-4 July in Avila, Spain, and it was a blast! 💡 On the first day, our team presented the final prototypes of our cutting-edge Police Interview game to the Hellenic Police, who had the immersive experience of conversing with an AI-enabled avatar in virtual reality to solve a crime or avert a crisis situation. 🕵️♀️ On the second day, LAW-GAME was invited to visit the Spanish National Police School. 🚨 Our team demonstrated the final prototype of the Police Interrogation game, where the player first studies the gathered evidence of a conducted crime and then interrogates the main suspect.
