The advancement of CCS projects is pivotal for Greece to achieve the ambitious targets set out in its National Energy and Climate Plan. With the EU aiming to develop CO2 storage capacity for 50 million tons annually by 2030 and 250 million tons by 2040, CCS will play a key role in Europe's decarbonization strategy. Greece is at the forefront of these efforts in Europe, with its first carbon storage project underway in northern Greece, alongside securing grants for projects that will capture up to 3.5 million tons of CO2 per year. The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) panel session with industry experts Jarad Daniels, Nikolas R., Dimitrios Zevgolis and Theodoros Tsakiris concluded the participation of HEREMA at COP29 Azerbaijan, for the second consecutive year! Thank you Hellenic Wind Energy Association, University of the Aegean, Hellenic Centre for Marine Research and Thematic School of Advanced Vocational Training Egaleo for co-organizing this very interesting meeting for the launch of the SHOREWINNER - Southern European Community for Offshore Wind Energy project, and for inviting Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA S.A.) The deployment of Offshore Wind Farms in Greece, as per the National Programme for the Development of OWF currently in the final stages of ratification, will support over 44,000 jobs a year – as per a relevant study drafted by IOBE - Ίδρυμα Οικονομικών και Βιομηχανικών Ερευνών (FEIR). This forecast renders the development of offshore skills critical – especially among residents of the local communities that will host the OWF. CEO Aristofanis (Aris) Stefatos at the 6th Renewable & Storage Forum, organized by energypress.gr.   Our CEO announced that the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment accompanying HEREMA’s draft National Programme for the Development of Offshore Wind Farms (OWF) has now been approved; which means that we’re one step closer to the implementation phase! Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA S.A.) was honored to participate at the Mediterranean Offshore Conference (MOC 2024) “Mapping the Future of Mediterranean Energy: Optimizing Exploration, Development, and Production with Decarbonization Technologies for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” held in Alexandria, Egypt. The Company was represented by our Senior Subsurface Engineer, Ismail Ismail, who presented a pivotal technical paper on CCS and shared insights into HEREMA’s groundbreaking work across the various pillars of Greece’s energy transition.
