Last week, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health team participated in the 2nd Conference of the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI) in Athens, Greece. The event brought together over 750 in-person and over 1,000 virtual attendees, including experts, educators, caregivers, youth, and other stakeholders, to discuss CAMHI’s progress and future steps in addressing mental health challenges faced by children and adolescents in Greece. In the opening keynote panel, Andreas Dracopoulos, Co-President of SNF, Marios Themistocleous, Deputy Minister of Health of Greece, and Harold Koplewicz, President of Child Mind Institute, discussed the mission and vision of CAMHI. The closing panel, moderated by Mr. Koplewicz, featured a discussion with the SNF Global Center’s Research Fellow Dr. Syed Usman Hamdani from Pakistan, Communicator Fellow Avit Ndayiziga from Burundi, Youth Coordinator Eduardo Vasconcelos Goyanna from Brazil, and Clinical Fellow Coordinator Dr. Lidia Gouveia from Mozambique. Additionally, Giovanni Salum, MD, PhD, Senior Vice President of Global Programs, participated in a panel with Dimitris Vartzopoulos, Deputy Minister of Mental Health of Greece, where they discussed CAMHI’s progress in strengthening the infrastructure and capacity for the prevention, identification, and treatment of mental health disorders in children across Greece.
