The City Network “Sustainable City” was established as a civil, non-profit organization with the intention to provide substantial technical support in informing, networking and managing the Municipalities that partake in it, enabling them to prepare and submit proposals to European Programmes and utilize the available funding. It is an initiative by the mayor of the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor, aiming to cope with the Municipalities’ inability to target the financial tools, which can aid in fulfilling their goals, to their lack of efficient networking that prevents them from forming the proper teams to promote their proposals. The formation of a network is deemed necessary mainly because the preparation and submission of proposals cannot be done by individual bodies but unions of bodies where, in most cases, are to originate from more than one country.
