Exciting to see #Athens taking significant steps in addressing water shortages through the revival of Hadrian's Aqueduct. As highlighted in The New York Times, reposted in the Kathimerini English Edition, the collaboration between civil society, local residents, and institutions is crucial in shaping a sustainable future for the city. The Cultural H.ID.RA.N.T. project by our office in Halandri is a notable example of this collaboration. By redeveloping five public spaces along the trace of Hadrian's Aqueduct, the project seamlessly integrates cultural heritage with the natural environment. This community-driven initiative fosters a new water culture, empowering citizens to play an active role in urban environmental solutions. A truly inspiring model for how cities can innovate and preserve their past while meeting the needs of the future. #Sustainability #UrbanPlanning #CulturalHeritage #CommunityEngagement #Athens #WaterConservation #UrbanDevelopment https://lnkd.in/eTe4PdK3

Following the recent announcement of the Faliron Bay Park's official name, "Aenaon"—a word imbued with rich Greek meaning, signifying something ever-flowing and eternal—this momentous occasion was marked in the presence of Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Prefect of Attica, Nikolaos Chardalias. It is a name that beautifully encapsulates the enduring spirit of this project and its significance for the city and its people. As TPA Director Ivy Nanopoulou expressed, the journey of Faliron Bay Park has been a remarkable story of perseverance and vision. Since its inception in 2000, this project has demanded unwavering dedication, overcoming numerous challenges, from securing funding to navigating complex collaborations across ministries and stakeholders. Through it all, the team’s commitment has never faltered, preserving the integrity and essence of this transformative vision for over two decades. This achievement belongs to every professional involved—architects, urban planners, structural engineers, and more—whose collective efforts have brought this dream to life. Special recognition goes to Katerina Andritsou, whose leadership, professionalism, and dedication Ivy described as indispensable: "Without her, we wouldn’t have achieved this result." The naming of "Aenaon" is not just the unveiling of a park; it’s the celebration of a legacy built on resilience, integrity, and a profound sense of social responsibility. As Ivy reminded us, our work in architecture and urban planning is a series of long-distance races, requiring strategy, persistence, and professionalism. Here’s to this milestone and to the ever-flowing journey ahead. The road may be long, but with collective effort, it is bound to be meaningful. #AenaonPark #FalironBayPark #UrbanPlanning #Architecture #LandscapeDesign #Resilience https://lnkd.in/d33rGNwi

Join us next Saturday, December 7, at the Architect Show! Participating in the "Infrastructures" series of talks, curated by DOMa, TPA Partner Katerina Andritsou will present the new Metropolitan Park of Votanikos. This project involves the creation of the largest #urban #park developed in #Athens in nearly a century, and spans 215 acres of greenery within a total area of 260 acres. To appreciate the scale of the park, it is worth noting that Pedion tou Areos, which was established in 1934, covers 277 acres (including Finopoulou Hill). With this park's establishment in western Athens, the city's network of green spaces is significantly enhanced, forming a conceptual ring with other major green areas like Lycabettus Hill, the National Garden, and Plato’s Academy. This addition plays a pivotal role in bolstering Athens' #resilience against the impacts of the #climate crisis and mitigating the effects of natural resource loss in Mount Parnitha. The discussion panel, taking place from 18:00-18.45, features: - Katerina Andritsou, Architect–Landscape Architect (Thymio Papayannis and Associates Inc.) - Antonis Skordilis, Biologist, CEO ECOSCAPES - Alexandros Tsiatsiamis, Founder & President (AT Management Funding & Development Consultants) - Moderated by Haris Biskos.

On Wednesday, November 6, our office participated in the scientific conference “Designing at the Edge of Small Islands at the NTUA School of Architecture in Athens,” with contributions from Stratis Babalikis, Urban and Regional Planner, and Lida Driva, Architect and Landscape Architect at TPA, who presented “A Cohesive Vision for Small Islands: Designing a Sustainable Future on the Identity and Intangible Heritage of Each Place.” The radical alteration of the natural and cultural identity of small islands is an unfortunate reality that rapidly leads to the erosion of their unique character. Spatial planning serves as the appropriate tool to halt this process, provided it respects the boundaries dictated by sustainable development principles and each island's carrying capacity. The conference focused on examining and clarifying these boundaries so that the spatial planning of islands can function as the essential protective shield they need. We are happy to share that our work on the Faliron Bay Park is featured in today's Kathimerini English Edition, including insights from TPA’s Project Leader, Architect Katerina Andritsou. A special thanks to Giorgos Lialios for the thoughtful coverage. We look forward to bringing our vision for the Athens #waterfront to life and contributing to the future of this iconic #landscape. The article highlights the Faliron Bay Park’s transformation, emphasizing expanded greenery, improved #accessibility, and new recreational spaces. Key updates include an elevated walkway, expanded waterfront seating, and shaded areas. The #design integrates principles from the #NewEuropeanBauhaus, promoting #sustainability and #community #connectivity. Enhanced pathways, multi-sport areas, and a hidden bridge reduce visual clutter while linking park zones seamlessly. Additionally, existing office buildings for the Region of Attica will feature rooftop green spaces, adding to the park’s environmental and social value. Exciting news for the future of Athens! The #regeneration of Faliron Bay has secured funding from the European Commission and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. A project that once only existed as a poster in our office since 2013 is now set to become a reality! At TPA, we are incredibly proud to have led this major #environmental #urban initiative from concept to execution, alongside our valued partners, Divercity Architects, Mplusm Architects, BLP Architects, H. PANGALOU AND ASSOCIATES, Dromos Consulting, ENM Consulting Engineers SA, ENVISTA, Denco Consulting Engineers, TEKEM SA Consulting Engineers, D Costi, CNWAY Engineering Consultants LP and many other collaborators. Maintaining such a dedicated team of experts for over 15 years has given us great confidence, and we can’t wait to see this project transform the Athens waterfront. This long journey has also allowed us to incorporate the principles of the #NewEuropeanBauhaus into our design, creating an outcome that surpasses our original vision toward a more sustainable, inclusive urban environment. Congratulations to the Region of Attica-Περιφέρεια Αττικής, and to Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, on this milestone achievement during his tenure, and our sincere thanks to all former leaders who supported us along the way.

At Prodexpo 2024, our Partner Maria Zafeiriadou, Architect and Urban Planner at TPA, shared her insights on designing successful #housing #policies. She emphasized that #UrbanPlanning for affordable housing is not just about building homes, but about creating entire neighborhoods that are socially and environmentally sustainable. 🔹 According to Maria, the foundation lies in #connectivity and #accessibility, ensuring that homes are close to quality public transport, open spaces, and social infrastructure. 🔹 She highlighted the importance of mixed-income and multi-generational #communities, both at the neighborhood and building level, to promote inclusion and prevent segregation. Citing Vienna as an example, Maria explained how the city maintains social housing even as students' and young professionals' incomes rise, creating a balanced urban fabric. 🔹 Climate #resilience is another critical pillar. Maria stressed the need to reduce the carbon footprint of new and existing buildings to ensure long-term sustainability. Moreover, Maria pointed out that affordable housing itself can serve as a powerful tool for #urban #regeneration. She discussed how, in Athens, a targeted approach focusing on affordable housing could revitalize areas like Votanikos, contributing to the overall quality of life in the city. 🛠️ Maria also underscored the value of tools like #inclusionary #zoning, which can engage private #investment in creating more affordable homes, ultimately building stronger and more resilient cities. #UrbanPlanning #AffordableHousing #Sustainability #InclusionaryZoning #TPA #Architecture #CityPlanning #ClimateResilience
