  • On 31 December 2024, all AFRC staff gathered to honor the then chairman Dr Kelvin Wong and expressed sincere gratitude for his exemplary leadership over the past six years. CEO Ms Janey Lai remarked, “On behalf of the whole AFRC team, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr Wong for his unwavering dedication in guiding our organisation to become a widely recognised independent regulator in Hong Kong.  Under his leadership, Dr Wong has led us to a new era for independent regulatory regime through two significant reforms, expanded our functions, and implemented vital changes that align us with international regulatory standards.  This has not only restored public trust but also enhanced the profile of the accounting profession.  Dr Wong has also fostered a culture of growth within our team, transforming it from a small family into a robust group of professionals.  Without his visionary leadership, AFRC would not be where it is today.  We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.” #AFRC #OneTeamOneCulture

  • 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄    In a recent interview with Metro Broadcast, Accounting and Financial Reporting Council (AFRC) CEO Ms Janey Lai chatted with the programme hosts on the role of accountants and the transformation of the accounting profession and provided an overview of the work of the AFRC in maintaining audit quality and promoting the sustainable development of the accounting profession.     Reflecting on the evolution of the accounting industry, Ms Lai emphasised how accountants have consistently defended the credibility of financial reporting across different eras. Accountants not only require technical expertise but also strong communication and analytical skills—qualities that break the stereotype of accountants as merely number crunchers. On the application of technology, she noted that it is essential to harness the power of AI to develop more specialised skill sets and enhance the overall value of accounting professionals. While AI can assist in handling the administrative tasks of accounting, it will never fully replace the invaluable role of accountants.   Click here to view the full interview: https://lnkd.in/gp-EHEHy    #Accounting #AFRC #ArtificialIntelligence #FinancialReporting
