Hong Kong is grappling with the dual challenges of an ageing population and urbanisation. In response, Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong hosted the "Ageing in Place Symposium" to explore ways to foster age-friendly communities. We extend our gratitude to Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong for the invitation. During the panel discussion on "The Future of Senior Housing," our founder Grace Cheng and other experts examined various senior housing solutions. We believe that successful ageing in place necessitates a blend of hardware (barrier-free design) and software (community support). Future housing design must also take into account the challenges faced by family members during the caregiving process, aligning with the needs of caregivers.

Thank you, Linklaters Asia, for inviting our founder, Grace Cheng, to participate in an important panel discussion on the challenges caregivers face in the workplace. The dialogue revealed how caregiving responsibilities affect workplace dynamics and employee well-being. We explored the complexities of caregiving — managing emotional fatigue, coping with role reversals, and navigating uncertainties. These challenges underscored the critical need for more specific caregiver support from their employers. As Hong Kong's population ages, more working professionals will assume caregiving responsibilities. We commend Linklaters' proactive approach in addressing this vital topic. Starting Oct 2024, Fairwood Holdings Limited 大快活集團 introduced soft meals for individuals with swallowing difficulties – making it the first fast food chain in Hong Kong to serve soft meals! As we age, many older adults face challenges with swallowing due to muscle weakening, dental issues, or health conditions such as strokes and nervous system disorders. Fairwood’s soft meals are prepared in Hong Kong and comply with the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) Level 4 standard, meaning that the food is pureed with an extremely thick texture. You can order via Fairwood’s WhatsApp or hotline for delivery, or visit the designated 20 branches for takeout.

Thank you Food and Environmental Hygiene Department for inviting our founder Grace Cheng to speak at the "School of Life - Life and Death Expo," where she joined experts from The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) 香港社會服務聯會 (社聯) and St. James' Settlement - Hong Kong to explore how citizens and caregivers can plan for different aspects of life from a caregiver's perspective. The expo attracted approximately 1,000 visitors throughout the day, encouraging open discussions about life and death. Let's continue to promote these important conversations and plan early for our caregiving journey 🤝

We are grateful for the opportunity to deliver a talk on caregiving at Morgan Stanley recently. Presenting in a hybrid format allowed us to engage caregivers from offices across multiple regions. The high turnout and engagement across time zones clearly demonstrated caregivers' strong interest in this universal topic. Thoughtful questions from participants regarding men’s involvement in caregiving and ways to support loved ones as long-distance caregivers highlighted the multifaceted complexities of caregiving. Our founder, Grace Cheng, was pleased to equip attendees with community resources, actionable strategies, and communication techniques. With a rapidly aging population, more employees will assume caregiving responsibilities. We commend Morgan Stanley for championing caregiver support in the workplace. If your organization is also interested in fostering these crucial conversations and empowering your employees to be better prepared for caregiving, please contact us at hello@agewhale.com to learn more!

Maintaining oral health is crucial for quality of life. Poor oral hygiene can lead to tooth loss and pain, which in turn affects eating and self-image. Here are some tips to assist with oral care for older adults: 1. Regular Oral Cleaning   Brush teeth, gums, and dentures at least twice a day, and rinse dentures after meals. If the older person can clean their mouth independently, carers can prompt or brush alongside them; if they are unable to clean themselves, carers should assist with the cleaning. 2. Regular Dental Check-Ups   Accompany the older adult to dental check-ups regularly and provide past medical records and a list of medications for the dentist's reference. 3. Dietary Habits  Avoid high-sugar, acidic, or sticky foods and drinks in daily diets to prevent tooth damage. 4. Proactive Observation   Carers should pay close attention to their behavior; refusal to eat or removal of dentures may indicate oral discomfort.

Our founder, Grace Cheng, served as one of the speakers at the event, engaging with over a hundred participants from various sectors.
