We are thrilled to share that our recent business delegation organized with HSBC and SAB to Saudi Arabia marked a significant step for our park companies to explore and establish a presence in the Saudi market. This trip provided invaluable opportunities to connect with key government departments, organizations, and intermediaries that facilitate business development in KSA. Saudi Arabia is undergoing a remarkable economic transformation as part of its Vision 2030 initiative, with landmark megaprojects and development of new economic sectors across the non-oil economy. It is now a competitive market attracting interest from around the world. This delegation was made possible through our 3-year strategic partnership agreement with HSBC, which includes an International Corridor schedule aimed at supporting our park companies to internationalize their presence, as well as developing a framework model for expansion into new markets. Participating companies also had the chance to share their expansion plans and connect with an audience that spans the Saudi economy, facilitating introductions to potential partners and clients. I’ve just returned from Saudi Arabia, where I was joined by 12 high-potential technology ventures from our strategic I&T partners - HKSTP - Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. The objective is to help expand their businesses to KSA by leveraging HSBC’s world-leading global network, a commitment we’ve made to the local innovation ecosystem as part of our partnership agreement with HKSTP. Saudi Arabia is going through a remarkable transformation with immense opportunities across many industries, but unlocking the commercial potential requires a strong commitment to the market, value add propositions aligned to Vision 2030, persistence and extensive connectivity. This is where HSBC’s and Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB)’s network and corridors come in. I will shortly be co-authoring an opinion piece on what it takes to win this corridor on the new economy front with my peer in Saudi Arabia, Saeed A. Assiri, to give a wider perspective to our clients. As part of this trip, the tech ventures had the opportunity to pitch their companies to Saudi Arabia’s private and public sector entities and investors, demonstrating how they can solve the needs of KSA as it continues its rapid growth. Examples include innovative solutions for indoor farming, electricity-free cooling, automated building inspections, event analytics, algo-trading, digital infrastructure twins and more. They also had direct engagements with the ministries responsible for attracting foreign investment. I was pleased to see the level of engagement from all sides, and feel optimistic that in the coming months we will be sharing early successes. We are already seeing some progress. The connections made as part of this trip were designed to accelerate the realization of these companies’ KSA ambitions. We will be working with our partners at HKSTP and KSA to develop a soft-landing framework for all tech ventures to leverage as they look to Saudi as part of their business growth plans.
